*After her classes and labs are finished, Sara retreats to her room. The door is left open for any students or teachers that wander by.*

*She begins digging in her desk* I know I left a bottle of phenolphthalein in here somewhere...

Maia walks by and enters "Hey I left my sweater." Maia watches Sara for a second, "Top drawer in the kitchen by the sink. How are you feeling?"

"Sorry to bother you, Miss Sidle," John says slowly. "But have you seen a pesky black cat around here?"

*glances around* I'm afraid I haven't, John. I did see a cat briefly the night I received my concussion, but I don't know where it went.

No problem. It's just been bothering me for a while. A cat showed up during one of mine and Lee's conversations about our love study sessions and hissed at me. Lee named it Snowball so, if you see, it might answer to that name.

Maia tilts her head for a second and looks uneasy. "I'm glad, that your feeling better." She stands in the ackward silence with Sara. "I'm sorry I thought it was in the kitchen."

Maia steps back, her breath caught in her throat. "I-" she shakes her head "Why, wh-what did I do wrong?" Maia is fighting her tears. "I- I don't want to see someone else. I'm sorry, for whatever I did Sara I- I'm sorry please, please don't say that."

Maia is still breathing hard, her hands are shaking now. "I pushed it away Sara, everything, everything about you so that it would be fair." Maia shakes her head and starts to cry. "I never asked you to love me. I never asked you for anything. I did everything I could Sara. H-he has never done anything " Maia shakes her head "And I'm the one you push away and refuse to love." Maia steps back controlling her breathing, keeping her voice steady. "Why can't you let me decide what I deserve Sara."

Maia stares at her "Your sorry" Maia shakes her head "Your sorry but your still doing this to me." Maia's eyes are heartbroken "Your still deciding, you've already decided obviously. And now your sorry." Maia's hands are in fists at her sides, she feels her self control slipping away.

Maia's whole being seems to shrink, her eyes go dead with no emotion. She turns around to leave and pauses at the door. "If some flowers come for you from Jacks, I ordered them over the weekend. I don't care what you do with them. I got them because I forgot to get you some for dance and didn't get to tell you how beautiful you looked." Maia's hand is on the doorframe, her knees are in threat of giving way. "Its too late to cancel the order." Maia steps out to hall and turns back towards Sara to see her back. "I would have waited forever you know, even if you never cared for me like I cared for you. You deserved to be loved Sara and I loved you, even if you never would have cared for me like that." Maia turns to walk down the hall.

*she doesn't look up* I'm sorry for hurting you, for giving you hope. You deserve to be loved, so much more than I could have given you.

And I wanted to tell you how beautiful you were. How happy I was to be there. But that kind of happiness never lasts with me. It never lasts.
