In the 2nd Floor Common Room...

Edward has comandeered a good portion of the floor space in the second floor common room. He has easily ten books spread out around him, most open to various spots or with places marked in them. He doesn't look quite well, but he's knee-deep in his research.

He's been in there for a while, and could probably use some distraction.

Edward glanced up from his book and smiled at Zero. "Well, it's going," he said, poking at the book with the eraser-end of his pencil. "Which is good, I guess."

He eyes the plate of cookies. "What have you been up to?"

*hefts the plate* Bakin'. An' library work. An' tryin' to talk Parker through withdrawal--which is why I don' have a lot of cookies left. Want one? They're completely harmless, I swear.

Almost as soon as the words were out of her mouth, Edward had two cookies in his mouth. "Mphtasty."

He waited until he'd swallowed his mouthful and brushed the crumbs off of his gloves before he asked his next question. "What's Parker going through withdrawals for?"

*shrug* She had to quit smokin' an' drinkin' caffeine 'cause she was developin' a hole in her stomach. I'm tryin' to get her to stop stressing so much because really, she's too young for an ulcer, but it's Parker, so that's not really workin' out.

Gih, that's horrible. Especially the caffeine part. Is it even possible to live without coffee? I don't want to think about that.

Have you suggested the martial arts class to her? GREAT stress relief, there.

Ah, interesting. The different forms and variations of langague and slang around here are fascinating.

I'm working on some new arrays, for various refined alchemical transmutations. There are so many conflicting texts and scrolls on the Stone I don't think I'll get anything worthwhile done. >.

I don't know what half of that sentence meant, but alchemy's like turnin' lead into gold, right? An' have you tried the library? You might not get far until we reopen Special Collections, though, come to think of it.

I've been in the Special Collections once, I think, but the library aide (Janet, maybe? 'zat her name?) wouldn't let me into any of the really good stuff. As it is, I've come across at least four different recipes for the Stone, and not a one of them shares similar traits.

*taps the book he has open* Apparently, if your world is like most here, that's all alchemy boils down to, the search for the Philosopher's Stone and a method to transmute lead into gold. Its uses are more varied where I come from, but I am questing for the Stone, myself.
