*Shep is poking at his computer. He's actually not playing Sims this time. Much to the annoyance of anyone who can hear it, the same four seconds of "Burning Down the House" can be heard over and over again periodically as he pokes away at the keyboard. Every few minutes the section of music changes, but always has to repeat several times before moving on.*

*Since returning from his run with Cam, Lizzie and Aeryn, he's discovered that his 'minorly twisted' ankle may be in worse shape than he thought. He debates going to the clinic, but isn't quite sure he can walk that far on his own. For now, he has it elevated on an extra pillow and is just trying to stay off it.*

*The door is open in case any one wants to ~~shoot him for playing the same damn line over and over~~ come in and chat.*

[ooc: I'll be around for the next 2 hours or so - starting at 6:30 CDT - so please stop in. The mun finally finished the SGA vid from hell. If you have AIM and want to see/beta, feel free to ask and Shep can set you up. :)]

Beka's on her way back into the dorms from hanging out with Cally. She stops at Shep's room. Somehow, there's nowhere else she'd really rather be right now.

She knocks. "Hey. It's me. Can I come in?"

Sure. How was the big D.T.?

*scoots over so Beka can sit on the bed with him, moving his right leg carefully. Now that he's pulled the sock off, the foot is all kinds of swollen and purple.*

Beka notices his leg immediately. "How'd you do that?" She winces, sitting down on the opposite side.

"Detention sucks. I got another one. And I'm almost certain to get kicked off of Council."

Let's just say that who ever said that exercise is good for you, should have qualified that statement.

How'd you get another detention?

"Sorry. You hurt? Can I get you any--" She rolls her eyes at herself, then shoots him a mock-accusing glare. "I hate you. How do you do this to me?"

She sighs. "By running my mouth. As usual. She said it was for 'socializing', but I probably deserved it just for being stupid."

*grins impishly* What did I do to you?

You got in trouble for talking? Was there a stated or announced rule that you couldn't talk?

"You made me like you, for one thing." She pouts. "Isn't that bad enough?"

Her eyes close and she shakes her head. "No rule, no. But I should've known. It's not supposed to be fun."

I didn't *make* you like me. ~~I'm just naturally charming~~ In fact, as I recall, the first thing I said in regards to you was that you were using a prof to put the make on one of the guys I knew! Not exactly an effort to try and endear myself to you.

No it's not. Well, you'll get it right this time and then it'll be behind you. I can talk to the dean or A.P. to try and keep you on the council if you think it'll do any good.

"You did too. You were nice at the wrong time. ~~And you're really pretty cute.~~ And there you go being nice again. Protecting me." ~~Damn it, you know I have a weakness for that. Not fair.~~

She gives a little shrug that could mean anything. "I don't think it'll help. I don't even know if I'm going to bother. I may just resign on Monday morning and spare the drama."

There's a wrong time to be nice? I don't think we play by the same rule book. And I'm not 'protecting you'. You're the last person who needs protection. I'm just volunteering to be... a... character witness.

Tell me what you want me to do. I so don't want to be on the wrong side of your wrath again because I said I would and then didn't, or because I did and you didn't want me to... and I so can't figure out what you want right now.

She sighs. "There's never a wrong time. It's just... People who are nice when I don't expect it, or when I don't think I deserve it... they... well, it's like what happened with you. We were fighting, then you were nice when I expected you not to be. And now..."

Running a hand through her bangs, she smiles at him softly. "And now I trust you. I don't think you should do anything. I don't think it will help, and it might get you in trouble, which would piss me off and get me in more trouble. If it gets ugly, I'll ask for your help...OK?"

So... what? You'd rather we go back to fighting? At least then I'd be more predictable? *is thouroughly confused now*

I can get myself out of trouble. I yelled "What the fuck grizzly bear" in Prof. Cregg's class and she just reprimanded me. ~~She took my computer away when I attempted to explain why I'd been yelling that~~ I still haven't seen the inside of detention. I can be very diplomatic when I want to be.

Okay... but I expect you to ask. Please, oh, please don't expect me to be able to read your mind.

"No. No I don't want to go back to fighting. At all." There's a note of something like hurt in her voice. "I'll ask if I want help. I'll ask you anyway. Because you'll give it."

Relax, relax, I'm kidding. I'm having an I'll-never-understand-women kind of day between you and Liz. That's all.

And of course I will.

Speaking of help... Can you see if there's any ice in the fridge over there? I'm gonna need to wrap up this ankle and take... you know... massive drugs.

She shrugs. "Guys are confusing too, when they think with their brains, anyhow."

Without even thinking about it, she stands. "Sure. Where's the other stuff? I'll get it too." She hears herself and winces.

By that I assume you mean the big brain. We're pretty simple when it comes to thinking with the little one. *smirks*

Ice should be in the freezer ~~of course if it's not it's no longer ice, so that was kind of stupid to say.~~. There should be a clean towel hanging on the back of the closet door. And in my closet, on the shelf, there should be a prescription bottle with some codeine left over from when I had my wisdom teeth out.

Thanks. If I'd known you were this helpful, I would have been nicer sooner. *gives her an evil grin, knowing she'll want to kick his ass for that, but won't 'cause he's hurt*

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. Get your pokes in now, sweetheart. When you're better, I'm gonna make you pay for that one."

She rummages about collecting the ice, towel, pills, and some water to wash them down with. Then sets about wrapping his ankle as best she can.

"You're gonna be pretty sleepy soon, and I'm still kinda jumpy. I'll stay til you sleep if you want, though."

I'd blame it on the meds if I weren't just now taking them.

You don't have to if you don't want to. I mean... it'd be nice and all, but in about 5 minutes it's gonna take a nuclear bomb to wake me up. So I'm not going to be very entertaining.

Thanks for all this. You're really sweet when no one else is looking. *Pulls her down and kisses her forehead*

*downs pills and watches her fuss with something of a cross between fondness and amusement. Then settles into the blankets, knowing oblivion will soon arrive*

"I'll stay a little while. Everyone should have company when they're not feeling well, if they want it."

Beka sits and strokes his hair. "You're sweet too. We'll have to be snarky during debate practice, though. Wouldn't want anyone to see us being this nice to each other."

*drowsily*

They'd haul us both into the clinic claiming aliens were possessing us... or... somethi...

Beka smiled fondly and kissed his forehead, when he fell asleep. "Dream pleasant dreams."

She'd come for comfort and ended up giving it instead, but she felt somewhat better anyhow. No more hurt, but she still wouldn't mind finding something to hit.
