South Attic: Beka's room -- locked between Beka and Buffy - NFB

Late Thursday night after Buffy had rounded up a number of gremlins out of the dark corners of the Attic spaces and the various halls, she reported the events of her day to Beka. The highlight, in Beka's mind, was her improved performance on her Biology quiz and the fact that she seemed comfortable in her role tonight.

"My Morning Star, you seem tired. If it please you, your little huntress would brush your hair before bed to help you relax," she offered out of the blue.

Beka smiled, delighted. "It pleases me. You please me. I have a little something for you." She pulled a box out of her nightstand, secreted there after a shopping expedition that afternoon when everything just got to be too much to take and she'd needed to light out of the dorms for awhile.

"Here. Go ahead, you may open it."

Buffy opened the box to find a silver choker with pearls set in a futuristic pattern. She kept her eyes lowered, but her voice came thick with emotion when she said, "My Morning Star is too kind. She shouldn't--"

"Hush, brave heart. You've been very good. It pleases me to give you this. Will you wear it?"

Buffy nodded. "Even after this assignment is over." She turned, facing away from Beka, and held out the box. "Would my Morning Star put her gift on her little huntress."

Sliding the choker off the cotton, Beka stepped closer to Buffy. She reached around in front of her, opening the choker and gently placed it around Buffy's neck. Buffy faced her again, and Beka held up a mirror for her to look. "It's very pretty, Mistress."

Beka lifted Buffy's chin and brushed the hair out of her eyes. "Then it suits you."

Buffy blushed a little, then picked up the hairbrush on the dresser.
