4th Floor Common Room

Following Dr. Wilson's advice, Shep is laying on a couch in the common room with a warm washcloth over his face. There are mostly full packages of Aleve and Sudafed and half a bottle of orange juice on the nearby table.

The t.v. is set to Jeopardy! since you don't actually need to *see* it to know what's going on and Shep can be heard muttering about 3/4 of the answers from behind his navy blue washcloth.

"What is... the bright idea of bringing kittens to study hall? They're fucking adorable, but there are some of us who kind of... you know like to breathe. And I wasn't doing too well with that before the terrible tabby trio took hold of me."

[come poke. He's sick, but friendly]

His roommate comes by. "The answer to that one is 'Mephistopheles'." He settles in on the couch.

"The bit right below your small intestine."

WHAT classes? I haven't seen either of my professors in weeks. I'm starting to think they're merely a shared illusion.

Lana Lang looks around the doorway. "I'm sorry, am I interrupting? I just... I didn't want to be alone in my room and the attic doesn't really have a common room..."

No, you idiots, it's 'eschatology', the study of the end of the world, and it's not obsolete at all.

Oh, dear God. Who wrote these questions, apes?

Martial Arts, Diplomacy, and whatever it was Prof. Jareth was teaching, all gone like the ashes of yesteryear.

Is it an open-book midterm? Because I certainly wouldn't be able to assist you in cheating. (smiles slightly)

That's not 'beet', it's 'bate'. Who ARE these idiots?

Oh, come on, 'beatitudes' isn't pronounced 'beet' either.

Lana comes in tentatively with her books. "Thanks and uh... Who is Beethoven? This has to be the first round, right?"

Wesley winces. "Same here. Last we checked, there were 2,357 known end-times prophecies, and I'm expected to be intimately familiar with all of them. Including the ravings of Blessed Stephen the God-Touched, who died after insisting that aqua regia was drinkable."

"Really? Where are you or when are you from?"

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_wespryce/ 2005-11-15 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Never heard of him, sorry.

Which is pronounced 'bate-hofff-en', not 'beet-' anything.

"She wrote stories about Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, Squirrel Nutkin, and Peter Rabbit."

Lana has been listening to the two guys go back and forth, "Wow, I think you two have much more interesting classes than I do. Though Professor Gandalf disappeared a few weeks ago and I had to pick up a new class - which I know have to drop."

"What is beatific? At least that one sounds like beet."

'Aqua regia'. Mixture of nitric and sulfuric acid. Very popular among the alchemists. *Not* advised for internal consumption.

Dear God, don't tell the Council or they'll expect me to memorize those as well. (looks morose) Oh, very well, do tell me, I'm probably expected to do the research.

"Who is Beatrix Potter?"

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_wespryce/ 2005-11-15 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppose you could go to the library for research. If so, I'll be sure to bring you flowers in the infirmirary.
