Girls' Bathroom Outside of Study Hall, Tuesday Morning
[Note: Actual conversation is NFB. The actions framing it are free to broadcast.]
Veronica was on her way to class when she walked past the Study Hall room and spotted Bel. Her anger flared and she didn't even think before storming into the room and straight to the desk where he was sitting. "I need to talk to you," she hissed in his ear, jerking her head toward the hallway.
As soon as Bel joined her in the hall, she grabbed his arm and hauled him into the nearby girls' bathroom. She shoved the door stop under the door to keep anyone from entering and double checked to make sure the stalls were all empty.
Bel leaned up against the wall, arms crossed across his chest. "If you wanted to give me another lap dance," he said, grinning, "there are more pleasant places to do it."
Veronica's cheeks flushed in anger and embarrassment. "I most certainly do not want to give you another lap dance," she said. "I would like to know what ever gave you the idea that I'd let you shimmer me somewhere though."
He shrugged. "Okay, next time I just watch and let you make a fool out of yourself and cause drama between more than just Logan and Rory."
"Lorne and Jarod knew what was going on. They would have kept me from causing any more trouble." She studied him critically. "Why are you trying to be nice to me? If you think it's going to keep me from trying to figure out what you're up to, it won't work."
"What I'm up to?" Bel said. "What are you talking about?"
She rolled her eyes. "I know you're trying to remove Angel's soul."
"You don't know anything," Bel snarled. "And this conversation is over." He moved toward the door.
"That's not what Phoebe thinks," she commented casually to his retreating figure.
His back stiffened, and he turned around. So it was Veronica Phoebe had run to. Or she'd gone to Piper, and Piper had told Veronica. Didn't matter either way, and it was his own fault for practically pushing Phoebe out the door to tell someone what she'd seen. "Yeah, she had a premonition," he said casually. "She saw me, and she saw Angelus. Doesn't mean I did anything."
"Doesn't mean you're not planning to, either. You should just save yourself the aggravation. No matter what you do, you won't succeed. Because even if you *do* succeed? Angelus won't be around long enough for you two to do anything."
"Oh?" he said, cocking his head and looking straight at Veronica. "What are you going to do, stake him yourself? Or are we going to have to put a revolving door on Angelus as his soul goes in and out?"
"If it comes down to it, I would," she replied, a determined look on her face. "What makes you think Angelus would still be your friend anyway?"
"Why wouldn't he be?" Bel said. "If...*if* I were trying to remove the soul, he'd be grateful to me for freeing him."
"Or he could be pissed that you didn't stop him from getting the soul in the first place. Hard to tell how those evil guys will react."
"I am beyond tired," Bel said, his voice tight, "of people like you trying to convince me he'd kill me. You like to think I'm stupid to not believe you. Well, I'd be stupid if I actually did believe you. You just want to make sure I don't try to bring him back, and you'll do or say anything to prevent that." He laughed in derision. "Guess again. He wouldn't have bothered to claim me if he didn't want me around."
"Claim you?" she asked, raising an eyebrow. "I don't think I want to know. You can believe what you want. But just know that you won't get away with whatever you've got planned."
"Yeah, you don't want to know," Bel said, scowling at his admission. "You don't want to know how the Underworld works. It'd scare the hell out of you. As for getting away with anything, how do you think you're going to stop me? No little orb and ritual is going to slow me down."
"Well, you could just tell me what you're planning, that would certainly make my life easier. But barring that, we'll figure it out. There are enough of us intent on stopping you that we'll figure out some way to do it."
"Oh, come on, don't you like surprises?" Bel said with a smirk. "You'll never know when he'll be back. Could be the next time you're alone with Angel, you find out he's been pretending all this time and it's really Angelus, and he's just been waiting for a chance to get you to himself so he can sink his fangs into your neck and drain you dry." As he spoke he moved toward her, backing her into a corner. "He's got a thing for blondes, you know. I'm sure he'd love a taste of you."
A flicker of fear showed in Veronica's eyes. "I know he's not pretending," she said, determined not to back down. "And if he wanted to do that, he's had plenty of opportunities."
The demon in him couldn't help but be excited by her fear. "That's because he's Angel now, right?" he said, moving closer. "But you won't know when he's Angelus again. Not like he's going to just tell you. So he'll wait, get you to trust him, get you alone, and the next thing you'll know, he'll be on top of you, fangs on your throat, drinking your blood." He looked Veronica over and raised his hand to touch her hair. "And who knows what else he'll do. Like I told you, thing for blondes."
"Get your hands off me," she said, trying not to let her fear show in her voice. "And thanks for admitting that you are trying to bring Angelus back."
"I didn't admit anything," he chuckled, dropping his hand, but not backing off. "This is all purely hypothetical. And what are you so afraid of? I promised not to hurt you, didn't I? Don't you trust me?" He wouldn't admit it to her, but inwardly he was struggling with the almost overpowering urge to hurt Veronica, like he'd intended in the warehouse. Fighting it off, he reminded himself of his promise...and that she was good friends with Phoebe...and that to try anything in the school was just insane.
"Why should I trust you? You're standing here trying to intimidate me right now."
"Intimidating you?" he repeated. "No. Just being realistic. Or have you managed to rig some sort of 'Angel's lost his soul again' early warning system? Bells, flashing lights, neon signs over his head that say 'evil vampire here'?" He shook his head. "Face it. You won't know until it's too late."
Veronica realized he was right, but she wasn't about to admit that to him. She made a note to call Marty and Parker and see if they could figure something out. "Whatever. I'm done with this conversation. I just wanted to tell you to never put your hands on me again." She looked at him expectantly, waiting for him to get out of her way.
"Sure thing," he said, stepping back to give her room to get around him. "But the next time you want to drag me off for some alone time, all you have to do is ask."
She was halfway to the door by the time he got to the end of his statement. She glanced over her shoulder. "In your dreams," she retorted, before kicking the door stop out of the way and exiting the bathroom.
Belthazor followed after her, putting his best satisfied smirk on his face as he stepped through the door. "Thanks, babe," he called after her. "We'll have to do that again sometime."
Veronica cringed but ignored him. It wasn't like his comment could tarnish her reputation any more than it already was after last night. Besides, who would believe that she had actually had sex with Belthazor in the bathroom?
