Gym, Friday night

Angela has avoided the gym all semester, but something about the day has her feeling unusually pent-up, muscles needing to be stretched.

To fight this, she puts on workout clothes and finds her way to the gym. She begins doing a circuit on the Nautilus machines, but it's a few bases arranged in a diamond on the gym floor and a big red ball that had been left out that catch her eye. If just a few more people came to the gym, they could play kickball.

Angela likes kickball.

She roams back into the dorms and tapes a sheet of notepaper to the bulletin board on each floor, reading "LET'S PLAY KICKBALL. MEET IN THE GYM."

Then she returns to the weight machines, feeling silly as she waits to see if anyone will show.

Cally, having spotted one of the notes, wanders down to the gym. She's curious as to who posted the notes, as well as wondering what the heck kickball is.

"Hellooooo? Anybody in here?"

"Just me," Angela says, freeing herself from the stomach crunch machine. "Hi, Cally. I don't know, I had a bunch of energy so I decided to just see if anybody felt like playing kickball, or anything."

"Oh, it's you! And you're not old!" Cally smiles. "Hi. I'm here. But I have no idea how to play kickball."

"Nope, not old," Angela agrees. "Anders told me you guys ran into the other me."

"Kickball is ... I guess it's kind of like baseball but easier. Basically, someone throws that big red ball at a person standing at one plate, and they try to run around all four and get home without being called out. It's totally low-key. We can try as soon as we get a couple more people."

"I can do low key." Cally nods. "So, you're all okay and stuff? No long term side effects or anything?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. It's bizarre -- I just lost a week, pretty much." She crosses her arms over her chest, looking a little embarassed. "I don't know, I still don't understand how the whole thing worked, but I'm glad to be back whatever's going on. So how have you been?"

"Been doing great. Haven't been up to a whole lot, really. Lot of reading, mainly. I need to get out more." Cally shrugs. "So, how many folks need to show up so we can play?"

"I'm not sure," Angela says, a worried expression crossing her face. "I mean, usually I played it in gym class with, like, 20 people. But I guess the minimum would be four people -- a pitcher, a kicker, and two defense types. I think."

"Hmmm..." Cally taps her chin. "Well, if folks don't show up soon, I'll go wrangle up Anders and a few others. That'll totally work."

"Anders would be awesome," Angela says. "Do you want to go try to find him? I think Marty's trying to catch up on his sleep tonight.

Callisto came into the gym looking fairly bouncy. "Hey, Angela, saw your note in the dorms and figured I'd come down."

"Hey, Cal!," Angela says, noting but not commenting on the bounciness. "We're trying to figure out how many more people we need. I think if we just get one more, we're good to start. Have you played kickball before?"

Anders shows up in the gym, dragging Rory along with him after finally managing to talk her out of hiding under her covers (http://www.livejournal.com/users/rory__gilmore/36926.html).

"Chase! Saw your note. Looked like fun. Rory here needs some fun and distraction, stat! Let's play!"

Cally hops over and hugs Anders from behind. "Hiya champ. You know the rules to the game already?"

"Well, I've played something called kickball, but it might be different from what you're planning on playing."

Rory gingerly lifted a hand in a wave. "Hi. I'm not three. In case you were curious."

"Awesome, we have enough people now. I think. And hi, Rory." Angela is rubbing her temples, trying to figur out how to divide five people into two teams, and figures she can tease Rory later. "Um, I guess we could do three people to kick, a pitcher, and one baseman? Does that almost make sense?"

"Oof! Hey, coach." Anders turns around and gives Cally a quick kiss on the nose. "Well, no, I don't. But I saw, you know, 'gym,' and 'ball,' and thought, 'Hey, fun! Let's go!' I kinda figured there would be kicking of balls involved."

He pauses. "Rubber ones. The kind you inflate and play with. Please."

"So you don't think boys have cooties anymore then?" Callisto asked 'innocently'.

"Hi. I'm glad you aren't three, though you were really cute. Did you ever get pancakes?"

"Also, how should we divide people up for this? I've never played kickball without a big group."

"She's not," Anders said, nodding importantly. "She's totally not. I can testify and everything."

"This is just kicking a ball and trying to run around bases," Angela says. "What was yours like?"

"Feeling a little threatened?" Angela smirks. "Yeah, we just kick that big red rubber thing and run around the bases. It's kind of like baseball, only easier."

"No pancakes," Rory said sadly. "I do have a number of lovely pictures that I'll be destroying, though."

"And um...I don't know. Do we have an even number? And are we expecting more?"
