Monday Night: Weird Hometown Support Group 1-30-06 (WHSG)

Lana got down to Ms. Calendar's room a little early to set up for the club. She'd also brought a book with her to read, in case nobody showed up. Not that she worried at all that no one would actually come to club she was running. No, that would be silly.

Once everything was all set she sat down and waited. Her fingers, of course, were not crossed.

Come on in, introduce yourselves, chat, and have some snacks. there are brownies, cookies, chips, some soda, bottled water, and of course, coffee.

Tell us about what makes your hometown so weird.

Anyone have any ideas about how we can use the club to help others who are struggling with the weirdness which is Fandom??

Maia signed in.

Maia grabbed a cookie and walked over to Lana. "Hey you ok?" she said eyeing her carefully.

Lana gives her a half smile. "Sure. Why wouldn't I be? I'm just glad someone showed up for club."

Maia nodded, it was club time she would give Lana the reasonsn for asking later so she opted for the easy out at the moment "Oh you just seemed a bit fried last night, I just wanted to make sure."

Lana glanced down. "Yeah, it's been kind of a weird week. Sorry about that."

"Don't apologize for getting overwhelmed ok." Maia smiled sadly and squeezed Lana's shoulder.

Maia sat in her chair and glanced around "Well uh, not from a weird hometown but I'm weird enough to make up for that so.." Maia laughed "Yeah I am my own hometown." She giggled.

Lana nodded. "Hey, get yourself something to eat and drink. I have enough out here for 30 people."

[ooc: What time is the meeting? I need to make sure Angel can go and not be in 2 places at once =) ]

[ooc: Danke! Am insane with things RL, but fortunately it's IC for Angel to be very distracted right now. Method gaming! :D ]

Angel signed in.

Angel helped himself to coffee. He took a seat. He flashed Lana a look of support, but otherwise seemed very quiet and distracted.

[OOC: Wait till you see me next month as I balance rehearsals and shows for three plays in addition to work and this place. ;) No worries. :) ]

Lana nodded at him, grateful for his support.

"I was thinking we might put some signs around campus - maybe with a number to call if people are feeling overwhelmed by some of the craziness that goes on here. Like after this weekend with the snow monster attack. There have to be people who are more than a little freaked out by that."

Lana pauses. "And maybe some of us could agree to take turns responding to any requests we get and/or pass them on to someone in the group we think would be best at helping with a particular problem?"

"Meteor Mutants." Lana says with a shrug. "Which encompasses a wide variety of things, with a new type seeming to turn up every week. People who can read your mind, shapeshift, develop super strength, turn into bugs, control your actions... It can be pretty freaky."

"Hellmouth," Angel said. He seemed to be finding his coffee very interesting. "Vamps. Demons. You name it. Not that you really want to allow them to live there."

Maia looked stunned but Lana's news..."You have 4400's in your town?"

"No. I think I'd prefer to stick with my meteor mutants."

"I have what?" Lana looked confused. "I'm not sure what those are, but these are people who are in some way affected by the meteors that fell on the town back when I was little. Under the right circumstances they seem to give people incredible powers - and also seem to make them pretty unstable."

"I like it," Angel said. "Course I'm not much for talking, but I can listen with the best of them."

"Sometimes - most of the times - listening is about the best thing you can do. People just want to be heard, to have their experiences validated." She smiled at Angel. "So, I think if you can listen, you'll be good."

Maia blushed slightly "nevermind." She smiled now and looked at Lana "Did you get powers from the meteors then?" Maia never recalled Lana ever telling her about powers from a meteor.

"Put me down," Angel said. "Be happy to help."

"Me?" Lana looks a little shocked. "No, I'm just a plain old ordinary person. Who seems to attract meteor mutants to me for some unknown reason."

"Thanks. I appreciate it. Especially since you're the one who got me into this," she said with a rueful smile.

"You're doing great," Angel assured her. "You don't give yourself enough credit."

She gave him another smile. "You and Maia are great for my ego," she replied. "And I appreciate it, really I do. I'm sure I'll feel more confident as time goes on."

Maia laughed at that. "Well as long as they don't hurt you." Then Maia laughed "you have a magnetic personality. hahaha" Maia smiled and bite into her cookie.

"Well it looks just wonderful, you did a great job." Maia said getting some bottled water.

Lana rolls her eyes at the pun.

"Actually, though, back home I spend more time in the hospital than Shep does in the clinic here." She shakes her head.

"Thanks. I figured I'd rather have too much than not enough."

Maia didn't laugh then. "Damn." Was all she could say. "Maybe you should move." Maia said in a very serious tone. "Seriously, like what would be the point of going back there if bad things like that happen?"

Maia gave Lana two thumbs up "I live to serve babe." She winked "Put me down to."

Lana shrugged. "It's my home. And as crazy as it is and as much as the people there can make me nuts, refusing to see me as anything other than the little girl I used to be... I *fit* there. Sure it can be dangerous, but find me a place that isn't."

"Thanks, Maia."

"No problem." She grinned.

Maia nodded "True enough but...well maybe something can be done to sort of limit the Danger SPF you know?"

"I think as long as there are meteors we're going to have meteor mutants. Not much we can do about that."

Maia nodded, Lana was right and there was no sense trying to stop what could not be stopped.
