3rd Floor Common Room - 6PM Fandom Time - PARTY!!!

At promply 6:00, Victor can be heard running up and down the stairs yelling "FREE FOOD! 3RD FLOOR!" Any who decides to investigate will find several tables full of various foods set up in the third floor common room. A delicious combination of smells wafts from the display, and several students are standing and waiting to serve you. The entrees are:

Table 1: Sweedish Meatballs, Various Pickled Herrings, and Pancakes

Table 2: Homemade Spaghetti with Garlic Bread

Table 3: Coq au vin (Basically rooster stew cooked with red wine)

Table 4: Cock and Bull Stew (Chicken, beef cubes, tomatoes, potatoes, spices)

Table 5: Warm Apple Pie (Whipped Cream optional)

Table 6: Rice Balls and Sushi, courtesy of Sakura! Yum!

There are a couple of unfolded tables just in case someone decides to add something to the buffet. There is also a table filled with disposable plates, cups, bowls, and utensils, as well as napkins. In the corner are a variety of bottled juices and sodas in an ice chest.

And, as promised, there are Twinkies. Boxes and boxes of Twinkies.

So what are you waiting for? Dig in! Mingle! Celebrate diversity!

[OCD Threads are up!]

Walter looks dubiously at the twinkie box.

He still doesn't understand their allure, and he has tried them.

The sweedish meatballs are, of course, delightful.

Pippi also has a platter containing Surströmming served with boiled potatoes and onions and rolled into a slice of tunnbröd, a type of thin, flat unleavened bread. There is also an unopened can of Surströmming (http://data.s-info.se/data_page/1027/images/ssurstrommingJPG.jpg).
If you try surströmming, or fermented Baltic herring, it is likely that you will never forget it. If the can is opened a strong, foul smell is released, the result of a fermentation process. This method of preservation was invented long ago, when brining food was quite expensive due to the costs of salt. When fermentation was used, on the other hand, just enough salt was required to keep the fish from rottening. Although lots of people do not like it, you have to eat it a couple of times before you really appreciate the taste, there is a hard core of surströmming devotees, most of them in the north of the Sweden. Pippi is actually from an area that is more to the south, but she is one of these devotees.

Alphonse eyed the Twinkie box. He hadn't tried one before. Or seen a Twinkie box.

"So um... what exactly are these?"

"That depends upon whom you ask," Walter said with evident distaste. "Either they are a delectable foodstuff fit for the gods, or something more than slightly indigestible."

"Sponge cake!" said Pippi unwrapping one.

"Look at that. Individual little sponge cake. What will they think of next?"

Alphonse stared at the Twinkie for a moment before finally deciding to actually try it. He broke a piece off and tried it. "Ohh, it is like a cake," he made a goofy grin, proceeding to finish it off. But he wasn't gonna try to scarf down ten at once.

Jake, who was on his way down again to investigate the sudden disturbance of the coffee-force, grabbed a plate of apple pie before heading off again.

Alphonse hoped the spaghetti didn't come out too bad; it was his first time attempting it, after all (of course, he had a little help from the others).

Walter backs away from Pippi when she opens the surströmming, but doesn't comment on its odor, having listened to enough crap from Victor about black pudding. (Which is really yummy, in Walter's opinion.)

Togusa walked in, following his nose, a little more quietly than the norm. He grabbed some of the stew, also taking a peice of garlic bread.

"Hey guys," Togusa said as he sat down with the bread and stew. "How's it going?"

Pip came in a bit late with his food. "This is literally the only other French thing I know how to make," he said as he set down the food. "Not sure how I managed to make it in time."

"Hi there!" Alphonse greeted, absentmindedly grabbing another Twinkie. "Hope the food's all right."

"Whoa! Hold on a moment there. You're one of the coffee hounds, right?"

With time to kill before the big secret guys-only meeting, Anders heads up to the third floor as promised and, well, helps himself to some of everything. Like he does.

Except the Twinkies, because they scare him.

"Food's great." He bit into the loaf for emphasis. "What's the occasion?"

"But you make such delightful creepys! Aren't those French?"

Re: Talk to the chefs!

[identity profile] cyclopeanmerc.livejournal.com 2006-02-09 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Yep. Two things French I can make. This and the crepes."

Alphonse waves to Anders from where he was in the room. "Well, now we're in a 'less wierder' place to meet more properly, huh? And no snow monsters this time."

Pippi puts the opened surströmming can under glass on a cake pedestal.

It fogs up a little.

Good thing the rest of it with the potatoes, onions, and tunnbröd has had time to "breathe".
