When the signup sheet for the cabins went up, Demyx felt like hiding in the corner. It was just like all the times when people had to pick partners or teams; he knew he'd be last, stuck with whoever was left over. Just like him. That's how it always happened.

He knew that his new friends would be much more interested in rooming with each other, because old friendships are much stronger than new ones.

So naturally, as it always went...he'd be left out.

C'est la vie?

Well, that's how it would have to be. Still, Demyx had to get the unhappiness out of his system somehow. He grabbed a black hoodie off the end of his bed and headed up to the roof to play some music. The weather was, to him, absolutely perfect, with just a light sprinkle of rain and a cool - but not cold - temperature. He doubted there'd be anyone joining him, since he was one of the few people who enjoyed being out in the rain, but that was fine.

He was used to being alone, anyway.

Maia, devestated over the lost call with Susan headed out to the roof. It's where she felt calm, where she felt close to Aziraphale. Maybe she would see a star that would wink at her like Susan used to.

When she stepped out onto the roof she heard the music and stopped short. "Oh hi, I didn't think anyone was up here. I-I'll go if you want to be alone."

"Oh...no, it's okay." Demyx shook his head slightly, looking up at the girl who'd come up. "I usually get lost in the music anyway, so it won't bother me if someone's around..." The melody that he had been playing was one of a melancholy sort, and his expression fit in with it. "I'm not bothering you, am I..?"

Maia shook her head and stepped out further onto the roof. "No, no I think it's pretty actually. Sort of reflected how I was feeling tonight actually. I'm Maia by the way. Maia Rutledge." She said walking over to him and sitting down, not close enough to invade her personal space but enough so he could speak to her if he wanted to do so.

"I'm Demyx," the blonde boy replied, adjusting his fingers on the strings of his instrument and playing a few soft notes. "Nice to meet you, Maia. I'd be more personable and entertaining usually, but I've hit a really bad low tonight and I just don't feel like being cheerful."

Maia nodded "It's nice to meet you as well. Don't worry, I won't expect you to be cheerful. I'm not in a great mood myself." She said quietly, she stared off into space for a few moments. "Would you like me to not talk to you?" She said tilting her head slightly. "I can go sit over there." She said nodding her head in the direction of the opposite side of the roof.

"If you want. It doesn't really matter either way." Demyx smiled slightly, though his heart obviously wasn't in it. "I'm used to being alone, but I don't think anyone ever truly wants to be alone...you know?"

"No, I don't suppose they do if they are honest with themselves. Are you missing home?" Maia said drawing her knees up under the chin and looking at him. "You said you were having a low night, it's hard, new school, new people. I hated it last year when I got here, I didn't know anyone."

"That's part of it," Demyx admitted. "I miss home, and Axel and Roxas. And I also have to deal with the fact that I died before I came here. I should be dead right now, but instead...I'm here. It's not exactly normal."

Maia looked at him for a minute. "No, it's not. I'm sixty-eight." Maia said quietly. "I'm glad your not dead." She said after a moment or two. "Don't worry, to much about what is normal here. I worried about it when I came but...well around here, to be 'normal' is unusual."

"...You look really good for your age," Demyx said seriously, though there was a definite sparkle deep in his inhumanly bright blue eyes. "I'm glad I'm not dead...but it's still a lot to grasp. And there's the whole lonliness thing. I'm making friends here, but with all this like...seperating off into groups thing, I know everybody's just going to forget about me."

"Thank you." She said with a smile. "I can imagine it would be." She said, her voice was very soft when she spoke, she wanted to ask him how he died but it was a very personal question that perhaps they would eventually come around to. "The lonliness, well your doing good to make new friends. It makes it easier and I don't like the group thing either. I saw the sign up sheets, a couple people I know put me on their list so I just signed up with theirs but, if they hadn't." Maia shrugged "I would have to just randomly sign up on the list. My friend Paige did. I think it could be a fun way, to meet new people though...you can sign up to be in the B part of my cabin if you want. I'm in Koala."

Not that Demyx wouldn't tell her if she asked. Just 'I was killed by a kid with a giant key' was more humorous and pitiful than anything else, and he wasn't really feeling like being laughed at. "Maybe. I don't know, but it's something I'll keep in mind. All that really matters, I guess, is that I don't end up near my current roommate. He's...well, crazy is the only word that really comes to mind."

Maia looked at him "Who's your roommate?" She said with a raised eyebrow.

"Phillip J Fry. Do you know him?"

Ranma happens up to the roof and make a bit of a face when he sees Demyx. He shakes it off, seeing as Demyx doesn't seem to be in a good mood. "Yo Demyx."

((OOC: Ranma isn't rooming anywhere yet *sarcasm* what a tradegy if they end up in the same cabin *cough*))

Maia looked thoughtful and then shook her head. "No I can't say that I do." She replied with a slight frown. "Sorry. Is he really insane?"
