The woods Monday Afternoon

Tim was walking along a path in the woods, when suddenly he stopped, eyes narrowed. He found himself thinking of the last time he'd been in a forest, and he wished he remembered what happened to his father.
But more than that, he was remembering how effortlessly his father had moved silently through the forest, while Tim and his friends stumbled loudly behind him.
Stepping just off the path into the treeline, Tim started to parralell the trail, attempting to move without making noise. As a result he wasn't going very fast.

Pippi was on her way back to the dorms, she decided to take the long way back... It's possible she was taking the very long way back, but she'd get there eventually.

This was when she saw Tim walking funny.

"Did you hurt your feet?"

"Not yet," Tim said. "I'm trying to-" *snap* "dang. I'm trying to walk in the woods without-" *crackle* "damn. Without making any noise." *pop* "Now what the hell was that?" he looked down at whatever it was that had just made that noise.

"You know you make less noise if you stick to the trail..."

"Well sure if you want to do it the easy way." tim said. "But you're also very visable-" *squish* "Aw hell."

Pippi walked up to Tim off the path, she makes no noise as she approaches him.

"Well, I'd like ta help you with that Tim. But I'm a pirate, not a ninja."

Tim grimaces, wiping whatever it was that he stepped on off on a rock. "You seem pretty good at it actually. Maybe you could be a Pirate Ninja."

"I dunno. Half-breeds have a hard time of it."

"Maybe Ms. Harrington's workshop will help with the sneaking." he said. "that's part of outdoorsmanship right?" He began moving again, still slowly, placing his foot ever so carefully- *crunch* "Damnit."

"I dunno." she mused. "It couldn't hurt to ask. Are you going anywhere in particular?"

"Nope," he said. "I just felt like going for a walk, and suddenly the urge to be like my dad popped up."

"Oh? What was your Dad like?"

"He was," he paused, frowning. "I don't remember much about him really. he disapeared when I was a little kid, and when I found him again we didn't have much time before..." Before what? What had happened?

"Well I know he could dash through the woods without making a goddamned sound."

Pippi is no stranger to absentee fathers who may or may not need rescuing. Didn't seem right to press for details at this point though.

"Well, that's a very good skill to have... We'll see what Outdoorsmanship is like and if it doesn't cover 'not making a goddamn sound' then we'll find somebody who can teach such things."

Tim smiled slightly. "Sounds good." He stepped back onto the path. "For now i guess I'll just get back to enjoying the outdoors.'

"Yes, take in the wonders of nature."

"How about you are you headed anywhere in particular?"

"On my way to the dorms," Pippi said skipping backwards next to Tim on the path. "I'm gonna pick up this picnic box I got so we can keep milk cold for our tea and coffee. I think this is the long way though."

"I think you're right." said Tim. "Fortunately I'm in no hurry. I've never been to summer camp before so I'm kinda liking it out here."

"Same here... Though Tommy, Annika, and I used to go camping every so often." she said. "When the weather was nice."

"I don't think I've met them yet."

"They're not here." Pippi said turning around and walking normally. "They're back in Vemmerby."

"Ah." tim said, thinking of his own friends back in New York. Asking if she missed them would be stupid. So instead he asked "do you manage to keep in touch?"

"We do." she said with a nod of her head, "Though I don't think they always believe me when I tell them about stuff that goes on here." Pippi grinned.

"I wrote home last week." Tim said. "My mom ordered me not to get anymore concussions, and my friends had no trouble believing what'd happened. Most of them are Fae."

"I have to agree with your mother... Concussions are Nadia's shtick." Pippi said. She didn't say anything about the other thing. Because, hello, awkward.

"... Tell me about your friends."

"Oh boy." Tim sighed, looking to heaven for inspiration. "Who should I start with? Teleri the Banshee? Yang the Ancestral spirit? Ilya the Bannik, Hobson the Hobgoblin, Master Runyon the Luchorpan, or T'ing and Neil, the only humans in the bunch?"

"Um... Start with the one you started with I guess."

Tim blushed and snickered. "Well I knew Neil and T'ing before any of the others, but I feared Neil, as any sensible kid in my school did, and, *cough*admired T'ing from afar. I wasn't until Teleri showed up that I managed to turn all that around. Of course she showed up, naked, smelling of dead fish, pre-emptively wailing over my death, in the apartment of the family I was babysitting for, while being reamed by the woman of the house."

"Why did the naked fish lady think you were dead?"

Tim! Get out! The Banshee is coming from inside the house!

"Well she didn't actually think I was dead." he explained. "She thought I was going to die. She's the Desmond Family banshee, destined to wail over our deaths, before the fact, and also just after. Turns out she was actually really late to wail over my grandfather or someone." He left out the part where she tried to moleste seduce him as a last bit of fun before he went.

Pippi thought for a moment... "Was she at the hotel? Because somebody was singing at one point..."

It's for the best that Tim left that bit out because the last thing Pippi needs to hear about would be fairies trying to molest seduce anybody.

"At the hotel? No I don't..." Then he giggled slightly. "She sent a tape with me. Just in case. I must have fell on my tape recorder or something."

"Just in case?"

"In case I, you know, died." he stopped giggling. "She is a banshee. I guess she thought if she couldn't be here in person to wail over me, she could be there, in spirit sort of."

"So on top of dying, you have to remember to turn on the tape? Don't you think you're going to be otherwise occupied at that point?"

"She doesn't always think things through." Tim replied.
