Outside Flamingo [late afternoon/early evening]

After a trip out to the junkyard, Anakin had returned to camp with his toolbox and the things he needed to convert Alec's motorcycle into a speeder.

So he was taking advantage of the late summer sun, sitting in front of Flamingo slightly covered in grease and surrounded by many, many parts of a motorcycle.

And shirtless, because messing up his robes while working on an engine was a pain.

The pink plastic flamingos seemed to be enjoying the view...

Cally totally didn't have a good view from on top of Pangolin. So she climbed down and wandered across the camp to check him the situation out. After all, mechanicy stuff was her sort of thing.

She was totally here to help with that. Honest.

"Hey Anakin," Cally said. "Whatcha doing?"

"Hey," Anakin replied, smiling. "I'm making Alec's motorcycle fly."

Cally blinked. "Are you going to add wings?"

Anakin snickered and gestured at a schematic he had found. "Not exactly," he said. "More like adjusting the engine to give it enough thrust to hover." He grinned. "We call them speeders back home. We're not big fans of wheels."

Hermione's walking around the camp, and has to stop when she sees what's going on. "Did you break it?" she asks.

Anakin shook his head, grinning. "I'm fixing it. It just kind of looks like a disaster right now."

"Whoa," Cally said, taking a look at the schematic.

And yes, that did interest her more than shirtless Anakin. Silly girl.

"So, you have all the parts to do this?" Cally asked. "And can I help?"

"Can I ask what happened?" she asks, taking a few steps closer so she can see the disaster better.

"I made a trip out to the junkyard earlier today, so I think I have everything," Anakin said, looking at the piles of parts. "And I would never turn down the help. Pick up a hydrospanner and jump in wherever."

"I took apart Alec's motorcycle," Anakin explained. "I'm going to make it fly."

"I know it's possible to do that with magic, but you can do that... manually?" she asks. "We have the technology now?"

"You and your fancy schmancy tools," Cally teased, before grabbing a hydrospanner and starting some basic work, checking back at the schematic every so often to make sure she was doing it right.

"So, haven't seen you in awhile," she said. "What've you been up to?"

Anakin grinned. "I'm not exactly from around here," he said. "I'm Anakin, by the way. Hi."

"Had to head home for a bit," Anakin said, putting together the engine without thinking about what he was doing. "The Council wanted me to check in before I spent another few months here without supervision." He wrinkled up his nose. "They let me come back, though, which is good. I'm here for the summer."

"And then you're gone?" Cally asked. "That's... well, eesh. I'm not used to the idea of people going away, yet. Even though people already have."

She continued doing her business on the bike the whole time.

"Hermione. Hello," she says. And since it's a standard greeting by now, she adds, "England 1995. What about you?"

"Well, there's the whole summer first," Anakin said, frowning down at a stubborn piece of the engine. "But yeah, I've got responsibilities at home that I need to take care of. You don't need a Jedi on Earth."

"Coruscant by way of Tatooine," he replied. He pointed up. "That way. For a long, long time."

"Nah, but I can think of a few people who could still use a great friend," Cally said, struggling with a bolt underneath the bike.

Which promptly shift suddenly and oil splashes down onto her face. She sputters and wipes her eyes. "Oops."

"Oh," she says, and adds, completely casually, "Are you human? I don't mean to be rude, but this is a relatively new concept."

Anakin tossed her a rag. "It got me, too," he admitted.

He turned his attention back to the engine. "It'll be hard to leave," he said, "but I can't leave Obi-Wan all by himself." He grinned. "Force knows what kind of trouble he'd get into without me to help him out."

"I dunno," Cally said, wiping her face, which only served to smear most of the oil around. "I got a bad feeling about this."

She tapped the bolt and make sure it was secure. "Though frak, maybe that's just me and my total fear of going home myself."

Anakin gave her a curious look, but didn't ask about any bad feelings she might be having. "You're afraid to go home?" he asked instead, reaching into the Force to levitate the engine towards the bike.

Anakin nodded. "Nothing rude about it. I'm human." He paused. "Well, and a Jedi, but that's another whole thing. What brings you to Fandom, Hermione?"

"My parents," she says. "They thought it would be safer than my last school. I've decided not to mention the zombies. What about you?"
