Meerkat Cabin--Common Room--Thursday Evening

Dawn was reading on the couch, enjoying the air conditioning after spending the afternoon outside in the humidity hunting for plants for Nature Magic. If she got the enthusiasm together later, maybe she'd go bother someone else, but for now she was content to be lazy.

[ooc: Open to cabinmates (of course) and others, but thread between Buffy and Dawn is locked and NFB.]

Buffy wandered back to the cabin after putting up the posters. She walked into the common room and dropped down on the floor, doing stretches for no particular reason. "Hey Dawnie. How was your day? Mine was totally completely awesome."

"Hot," she said, happy to see Buffy in a good mood. "Really? What made it so totally and completely awesome?"

"Sam! And Alec! And cheerleading tryouts!" Buffy summed up, grinning, as she bent forwards.

"You're dating both of them?" Dawn stared at Buffy, pretending that was the reason her stomach was tight. "And I thought cheerleading tryouts were Saturday?"

"Um, what're you doing?"

Buffy sat up straight, staring back at her. "I'm not dating Alec! That'd be weird! ...Sam's a total cutie though, and I don't think Molly would mind. Didn't look like she would mind." Buffy frowned. "Maybe I should ask her to check. And we decided on new cheerleaders yesterday so I just put up the posters!"

"No, she probably wouldn't mind," Dawn frowned, "I got the impression from both her and Sam that they weren't clicky. And why would it be weird to date Alec?"

"Who made the team?"

"Reeeeally?" Buffy wasn't really plotting Sam's imminent demise. It just looked like she did. "Hmmmm.. Huh? Oh. Because he's Alec, of course."

Buffy blinked at Dawn. What a strange question! Alec was just... Alec. Pretty, yes, but still Alec.

"The ones who made it was Isabel and D and Pippi and Demyx and River and sort of Hamlet 'cause he's an alternate and he needs some cheer in his life. And possibly a new wardrobe."

Dawn gave serious thought to kicking Buffy until she noticed the boots, which looked extra-pointy. "Oh, good for Isabel and Pippi! I haven't met any of the others. Are they nice? And what's wrong with Hamlet's old wardrobe? It's very punk."

She watched Buffy, unable to believe that this was really her sister, and that this was what she wanted her life to be. "When are practices?"

"Starts this weekend, I think. Going to check with the others to see if that fits."

Buffy went back to stretching, with one leg out straight, and the other leg bent at the knee and pressing the sole of that foot against her opposite inner thigh. "River's my room mate and she seems okay, except for the fact that she says an ice cream eating monster named Bertie lives under my bed. D I don't really know, but she can yell. And Demyx can make weird watery things.

You're gonna come watch the match, right?"

"Do you have an ice cream eating monster living under the bed?" Dawn was a bit surprised by Buffy's question. "You want me to be there? Really?"

"Not that I've seen, but it could be an invisible monster," Buffy said thoughtfully. "You never know. I don't think it's dangerous thoughl. Unless you're an ice cream, I guess.

Sure, I want you there! Meerkat pride!"

"As long as it's not eating you, I guess?" Dawn frowned, still a little concerned, but it wasn't like Buffy couldn't take care of herself."

"Because I'm a Meerkat?" Her face fell and she had to remind herself that this wasn't her sister who didn't want to spend time with her. "Right, of course. It'll be fun."

Buffy noticed the look on her face, and gave her a slightly contrite look in return. "And you're a friend? Or, I think so?"

Dawn played with her hair. "Yeah. I'm just used to things being different," she said, staring down at the ground, "it's not your fault."

"You what?" Buffy frowned, puzzled. "Oh. You know another me, right?" She didn't sound especially thrilled at being reminded, but neither was she running away.

"Yeah, I know another you," Dawn said, looking up and meeting Buffy's eyes. She took a deep breath and blurted, "She's my older sister."

Buffy's eyes widened. Of everything Dawn could have said, that was the last she expected. "Say wha buh?" she exclaimed, as she tilted over and fell flat on her back. "Bzuh?!"

That evening, Dean headed over to Meerkat. He knocked on the door and stuck his head in. "Anybody home?"

Yeah, that could have been smoother. "You okay?"

Dawn waved from over on the couch. "Hey. You coming in out of the rain?"

Buffy flailed, hands waving vaguely in Dawn's direction. "No! Big brother not little sister!"

"No big brother," Dawn said, shaking her head. "Yes little sister."

"If you'll have me," he said, stepping inside. "How goes things?"

Buffy lifted her head to frown at Dawn as another thought hit her. "But you're bigger'n me."

"I think I broke Buffy," she said, setting her book to the side. "How was your workshop?"
