Camp Kitchen, Thursday late afternoon

Walter grabbed a nap after his stop by the clinic then made his way to the camp kitchen for the cooking he and Pippi were supposed to be doing.

The chef and Das Schnitzel were nowhere in sight, so there were gleaming counters and industrial ovens just waiting.

Pippi flounced in with the ingredients for shepherd's pie and also brownies... Including the butter she made.

This should be interesting.

Walter was trying to find his way around the kitchen, pulling out mixing bowls and pie tins.

"Hey."

"Hey, how was your visit to the clinic?"

Walter set a bowl down on the metal counter with a resounding clang. "I have a referral to see an eye doctor on the mainland. I don't have classes tomorrow, so I thought I'd try to get in then to get things taken care of as quickly as possible."

"Would you like me to go with you? I don't have class until the afternoon... I could let The Doctor know I'll be late or whatever."

"If you'd like. The sooner this is done, the better." He pulled out some measuring cups and a skillet for the meat for the pie.

On the upside. "The eye test at the clinic was unique."

"Oh? How so?"

"I don't think Dr. Cox and Tommy are the best of friends," Walter said, smirking a little.

"Really? Dr. Tommy has such a nice bedside manner."

"I haven't really dealt with him, but Dr. Cox changed the eye chart to say something unflattering about Tommy. Or someone else did and he just didn't disagree with it."

"What did it say?"

Walter spelled it out "T O M M Y I S A N A S S."

Pippi giggled.

"I guess you've got a point there."

"I can't say whether he is or not, but Dr. Cox seemed to know what he was doing and he didn't do any peculiar witchy things."

He had a full array of cooking utensils set out for them. "We have more than one oven here, do you want to make the brownies while I make the pie?"

"Sure." she said setting out the ingredients. "You said something about sharing. Did you invite anybody?"

Walter took the meat to brown it first. "No, I haven't really been very social today - class, clinic, nap, here. But there are usually leftovers to share."

"That's true." she said, "Plus people may show up while we're cooking. People do that."

Walter nodded. "I've never tried summoning guests in this kitchen. It almost always works in the common rooms."

"It's the lure of food one doesn't have to cook." she mused.

"I'm surprised how many people here cannot cook at all," Walter said before shrugging. "Of course, I have seen the frozen food section at All and Sundries, so I suppose many of the others never had to learn."

"I suppose it's a dying art." Pippi said. "but that wouldn't explain the food network."

"Or maybe it does. People want to watch cooking as sport, not to participate."

Nadia had certainly made cooking a high risk endeavor for her tasters...

Happy thoughts. "So. What did you do to make the butter special," he asked as he folded some of the distinctly green tinged butter into a bowl with his crust ingredients.

"I infused it with herbs!"

Walter gave it a sniff and turned a dubious look on Pippi. "Just which herbs are those?"
