2nd Floor Common Room: Evening

After a long day at the Carnival, Marty takes charge of the giant TV and starts flipping channels to find something to watch.

He settles on the one movie involving a mummy and a bunch of handsome people an then cracks open a soda and makes some microwave popcorn.

In light of certain things he'd learned yesterday, and certain pictures plastered everywhere in the dorms, Conner had checked in at ABC-DC headquarters and then room 201 but Anders wasn't there, so he decided to camp out in the second floor common room.

Oh, crap. Not empty.

"Uh. Hi."

Tyler had spent a long day avoiding the carnival and skulking. It was time to be social. "Hey," he said, plopping onto the couch.

Tyler nodded. "Hey Conner."

"I've had better days," Conner said, slumping into a chair and eyeing the TV. "Oh, look, crazy ancient Egyptian curses. That brings back memories."

"Tyler," Conner replied, nodding back. "Hey, man. What's going on?"

Tyler nodded. "And you're Martin?" he said. "You used to work in the record store."

"Nothing much," Tyler said. ""Skipped the carnival. Trying not to melt in this heat. The usual."

"There were mummies here? Seriously?" echoed Conner, effectively answering the question. "I didn't even know about that, but I had a fun encounter with an evil Pharaoh back home. Cursed hieroglyphs, brainwashing. Good times."

"Tell me about it, man. It's way too hot to be out there." Conner rooted around in the fridge and helped himself to someone's bottle of water. "How do people live here for years when the summers are like this?"

"It has its good parts and bad parts, like anywhere," Tyler said. "Workshops aren't too bad. Guess you must like it, if you came back."

"Hey, Marty," he replied with a salute-like wave. "Conner McKnight, and yeah, this place feels just like home."

"You got me, man," Tyler said affably. "Maybe they do what we're doing and hide in the A/C."

"Word of mouth. I heard interesting things about it from Doctor Oliver," explained Conner. "And when a year of my high school transcripts mysteriously ended up missing, I thought it was a sign that I could use a fresh start. You?"

"Heartwarming," Tyler said. "That's truly good to hear."

"I wouldn't mind so much if it was, you know, drier." Conner looked at the water bottle and realized he'd already finished half of it. "Seems like a waste of summer when it's more comfortable to stay indoors than go out and do summer things."

"Can't say they've ever helped me," Tyler said. "Sorry if I'm harshing your mellow, dude."

[identity profile] tyler-gone.livejournal.com 2006-08-05 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
"Mmm," Tyler agreed. "What kind of summer things do you want to do? Maybe we could figure out a substitute."

"Aw, the usual, I guess," Conner shrugged. "Hang out at the beach, play soccer, stuff like that. The basketball's been helping with the competitive urges, at least."
