Fifth Floor common room - Early Tuesday morning

Berthold had tried getting River's attention far too early for her liking this morning. While generally being quite patient with Berthold, she did not like being woken up by a tickling monster. Hence she had thrown him out of the room.

Berthold didn't mind that much. He had placed himself under the table in the common room, hiding under his blanket, while eating ice cream with one tentacle and playing with River's Statue of Liberty snowglobe with another. In short, he was a happy monster.

Phoebe had gone down to the beach to visit Spinster early that morning and to make sure everything was alright with him. After promising to come visit again that afternoon, she headed back to the dorms. Not wanting to bother anyone, she decided to hang out in the common room for awhile.

Berthold noticed someone coming into the room. He curled up under his blanket and lay still, trying to figure out if this someone was friendly.

Phoebe relaxed in the room, looking around. She was feeling safe and happy and was slightly lonely. She noticed the blanket in the corner of the room, but didn't know if she should go and see if the blanket belonged to someone -- or if another student had fallen asleep there. If someone was sleeping it would be rude to bother them.

Berthold slowly crept closer to the stranger, still hidden under the blanket. To be on the safe side, he tried to hide behind the furniture while advancing.

If Phoebe happened to notice anything coming closer or felt anything or anyone in the room with her, she might have allowed her hand to drift down to hang off the edge of the couch.

When he reached the couch, Berthold carefully extended a tentacle and poked the stranger's hand. Perhaps a bit odd in way of greeting.

Phoebe looked down out of the corner of her eye, but moved carefully, not wanting to spook whoever was poking her. Instead, she opened her hand and let her palm rest up, hoping he'd see it as encouragement.

This was probably a nice person, Berthold decided. He placed the half-full ice cream container in her hand as a friendly gift.

Phoebe smiled when she saw the ice cream. She looked down to where it had come from.

"Thank you," she said in a friendly manner.

Berthold gave her a friendly sniffle in reply.

Phoebe wanted to reach out and either stroke him or pet him to show him she liked him, but again, she didn't want to be rude or scare him.

Pippi walked into the common room rubbing the sleep out of her eyes.

There were cold pancakes in the fridge and they'd make a good breakfast.

"Mmmmmph mmmm mmm..." she muttered to whom so ever was in the room.

Berthold now extented another tentacle, the one holding the snowglobe, and shook it enthusiastcally to show his new friend.

Berthold recognised that voice and tried to imitate the mutterings. It sounded like a sniffle.

"Aww, good morning Berty. Was that a sniffle or how you talk?" she asked. "You're not getting sick are you?"

She knelt down and held out a hand for him to put a tentacle in so she could see if he was warm.

Because it's not like she could see a forehead on him... She also didn't know what warm for a... Whatever Berty was, felt like.

But it seemed the thing to do.

Phoebe watched him and her face broke into a big smile. "Oh that's very pretty." Then she realized she had been rude since her new friend didn't even know her name. "I'm Phoebe."

Berthold squealed happily in reply. He extended another tentacle from under the blanket and waved to Phoebe.

Berthold reached out and tickled her palm gently. He sniffled happily again.

Pippi giggled and tried to tickle back.

What was it with tentacles and tickling?

Best not think to hard about it.

Phoebe bounced gently at the happy squeal and waved back at him. "It's nice to meet you, too."

"Good morning Phoebe." Pippi said cheerfully. "How are you feeling after this weekend?"

Berthold liked making new friends here. He poked the ice cream container carefully.

Berthold then playfully attempted to pull Pippi's hair. This was a nice, friendly person after all.

Phoebe smiled. "Would you like it back now and thank you very much for sharing it with me."
