Dorm Roof - Saturday Evening

Blair was bored and decided to head to the roof to hang out, look at the garden and play emo rock on his guitar. He wasn't really sure what emo rock sounded like but he was positive that was all that was allowed to be played on the roof.

"There was a boy who had a song,
He sung it on the roof-o.

E-M-O emo!
E-M-O emo!
E-M-O emo!

He sung his emo song!"

As Blair finished his song, Walter started applauding and grinned at him. "Interesting choice."

"Jingling is only torturous for the listener, not the jingler," Walter said, shaking his head. "Are you struggling through a pseudo-tragic life?"

"Last Saturday I thought I was Angela. The Saturday before that I thought I was my employer, Arthur Hellsing. Today I only had to dress like Conner, but I knew I was myself. I will count that as progress."

He shook his head and looked confused. "Why do you need to fool the Man?"

"It's possible to be up here without being emo." Walter stopped to think, just to be sure. Yes, he'd been up here without emo. "Pippi comes up here and she's never emo."

Walter grinned at Blair's enthusiasm. "If you're a rebel, shouldn't you just do it? Sing your ABBA." Then he added a phrase picked up from Lucas, "Damn the Man."

Walter chuckled and found a spot downwind from Pip to sit down and light a cigarette.

"I didn't know you played guitar." He still wasn't sure Blair did.

Walter did a good job of not wincing visibly. "Nadia showed me a few things that Pip showed her. I can show you, if you'd like, although I hardly count as qualified to teach guitar."

Walter waited for a place to break in and perhaps encourage Blair to stop with his autodidacticism for a moment. "Right, then. Who is Naomi? Did you go to school with her before you came here?"

That sound? That would be slow-clapping, coming from the smirking figure leaning against the doorframe of the roof entrance.

"Clearly you haven't heard me sing," Ivanova laughed. "And any last trace of emo would have been dispelled by your performance."

Walter raised an eyebrow. "Why do you call her Naomi?"

"Do you know how to mope?" Ivanova asked, lifting an eyebrow. "But if you want emo . . ." She lifted a hand and pointed towards a certain building in town. "That was Tonks' flat. I pick it out every time I'm up here." She didn't look particularly down about this.

Walter blinked in bemusement. "She didn't want to be called 'mum' because then she'd have to act like one?"
