Grounds, Saturday Night

It was a lovely, clear night, perfect for a little stargazing. After calling Marty, Angela headed out to the grounds with a blanket, a bag of chips and some cold drinks; she also had her notebook and a flashlight.

She spread the blanket on the grass beside a strand of trees and waited for whoever might wander by.

Marty flopped down next to Angela. "Hey you. How was your day?"

"Decent," Angela said, leaning over for a kiss hello. "I spent most of it playing with Min in my room and then I had cookies with Molly and Dawn. How was yours?"

"Good. I slept in late and then picked up a gift for you," Marty replied handing her a bulking wrapped package. "It's no Cher outfit, but I think you'll understand why I got it."

Angela took the box and opened it, noting its weight. "Thanks," she said, unwrapping it. "It's a ... really heavy vest?" she looked confused.

"It's kevlar!" Marty replied. "It's the perfect back to school gift. Everyone will be wearing them this year."

"It's ... nice," Angela said, not sounding incredibly enthused. "So do I wear it under or over my clothes?"

"Your choice it can work with both," Marty replied. "I know it's not the most romantic gift in the world... just think of it as me trying to protect you from the weird stuff around here."

And Angela appreciated the thought, finally. "Thanks, sweetheart," she said. "If I hear anything weird is happening, I'll put it on first thing."

Because she isn't walking around in a bulletproof vest every day for an entire year, no.

"Good," Marty said leaning over to kiss Angela on the cheek. "I know you would because you're smart like that. What did you bring to eat?"

"Just chips and soda," Angela said. "I didn't have a bunch of stuff in my room. Oh, there's an apple and some cheese, too."

She smiled. "So did you get kevlar underwear?" she asked.

Marty snags the apple and just raises an eyebrow at Angela. "That's kind of a personal question don't you think?"

Angela blushed. "No, because of the first time we went shooting!," she protested. "First and, um, only, because ..."

Marty seems to be enjoying this a little too much. "Oh were you thinking of shooting me again? And because what?"

Callisto wandered by. "Hey."

"I'm not going to shoot you again!," Angela protested. "And if you were kevlar underwear, you'd be protected if I did."

"Hey Cal!" Marty said with a cheerful wave. "How are you doing?"

Callisto carefully lowered herself to the ground. "You know, overworked, overstressed, possibly pregnant...same old, same old, really."

"So you think I should get some then? Just in case?" Marty asked in a teasing tone.

Okay, that last part? Way to freak Angela out. Not that she thought Call would make a bad mother -- or a good one -- or that she had ever thought about Cal as a mom at all -- but the idea of someone in school getting pregnant, other than Sydney-the-first, was very strange.

She blinked. "Um. Angel?" she asked Cal. "And .. congratulations?"

"Do they make it?" Angela asked, managing to look very serious.

"I've never actually looked. What do you think would be better? Boxers or briefs?" Marty mused.

"Well, there aren't exactly any other candidates," Callisto replied.

"Boxers are sexier," Angela said, giggling a tiny bit. "But briefs would ... um ... protect. More. I think."

"But boxers have better coverage," Marty pointed out. "So that way I could be sexy and protect myself from random bullets shot by my girlfriend."
