In the grand tradition of communal living, Walter was doing something messy in a common area, rather than in his own room. He had a supply of non-toxic paints, some heavy duty sheets of paper, and the truly odd idea that it would be fun to take Pup's pawprints.

It's possible he'd been spending far too much time in his room reading about guns.
