Roof, Sunday Night

Pip was up on the roof plunking on his guitar, staring up into the stars.

Jesus. Poor Marie. And to think he started this day planning on soaking everyone.

Walter hadn't seen Nadia and was unaware that she was off meeting the other half of her OTP so he'd headed to the roof for a cigarette and a last evening of summer.

Conner wandered up toward the roof after getting Marie back to campus, nodding briefly to Pip before he sprawled out and closed his eyes.

Walter fished his lighter out of his waistcoat and flicked it where Pip could light his cigarette. It was done with such ease, one might assume he'd practiced it many times before.

"I heard you had an adventure on Friday."

"Hopefully. She's pretty shaken up, though." Conner shook his head, thinking about how freaked out she seemed to be about being touched. "Somehow I wouldn't expect her to be the life of the party for a while."

Pip lit his cigarette. "Thanks. And yeah, you might say that. Boat overturned. Got eaten."

Pip nodded. "Not likely, no." He shrugged and plucked a few notes. "Any requests?"

Walter took a seat and pulled out a cigarette for himself. "Pippi told me. She didn't mention how you two got back, though."

"Swam for the cove," Pip said. "Then worked our way up the rocks back to where we could walk back here."

Well, that and he wasn't about to admit that most of his music collection consisted of bubblegum pop.

"You can say that again." Conner picked up a pebble that was at hand and tossed it up and down. "And I don't really get the feeling this means the school year is going to be nice and peaceful, either."

Once Nadia had finished helping Weiss with his bags and possibly getting scared off by his roommate, Nadia headed for the roof.

Classes started tomorrow. Like, real ones.

The summer was over. It'd been a doozy.
