The Gym, Thursday Afternoon (After Classes)

Joxer was being nice. He figured the armor would be an unfair advantage, so he'd taken it off and set it aside, instead going for the usual sparring padding. He did a few muscle flex poses, just because he could, even if there wasn't an audience.

At least, no audience he was aware of.

Billy came in just at the tail end of the muscle poses, but decided not to say anything. He noticed that the armor was gone, Joxer must mean business, he'd given himself full freedom of movement. Billy grinned.

Joxer turned to spot Billy. He flexed his hand a little and nodded.

"You ready for this?" he asked.

"Absolutely." Billy said, stepping to the mat.

Joxer put up his fists and nodded. "Me too," he said. "Let's do this."

He even started things off with a quick left jab at Billy's shoulder.

Billy blocked the punch, and smoothly returned with a chop to Joxer's right bicep.

"Owwww," Joxer said, as his bicep was harshly chopped. He lashed back with a wild right swing.

Billy dodged the punch easily.

He's testing me Billy thought.

As he dodged back, his foot came up in a side kick for Joxer's...side, just under the ribs.

Joxer's ribs thankfully did not crack or bruise. But they were solidly hit, and the poor warrior let out a yelp.

"Great, I'm going to have bruises and detention," he said. He reached to try and grab Billy in a bearhug.

It's important to note that Billy had used his real leg to kick Joxer. He never kicked with his prosthetic except in a real combat situation, as it was made of metal and slightly stronger than his real one.

Billy twisted away from Joxer's arms, and grabbed for one of them to twist it into an elbow lock.

Joxer yelped again. "Ow, ow, ow!" He said, very much trapped in the hold. "No fair!"

Billy released the hold, now standing behind and just to the side of Joxer. "Well if you stopped holding back..." Billy said.

Joxer shook out his arm and turned to face Billy. "Oh, of course," he said, even though he really hadn't been holding back. "Errr... ha!"

He ran forward with attempts at a charging clothesline.

Billy ducked in a leg sweep. What was Joxer doing? It was almost like he'd never been in a fight before.

Joxer's legs were firmly kicked out from under him, and he crashed hard against the floor.

"Ow," he said, grunting.

Billy immediately followed the leg sweep with a modified axe kick that should bring his calf down on Joxer's stomach.

Joxer made a rather serious 'oof' noise and spasmed a little with pain.

Billy frowned. Up till now he'd been assuming that Joxer had been toying with him, testing him. But now he was really starting to worry.

"Hey, you okay?" he asked, concerned.

Joxer coughed and made a bit of a face. "You're pretty good," he said.

Well the guy was breathing and talking. Good sign.

"Thanks." Billy said, still looking for signs of major damage to his opponent. "I had good teachers."

Joxer was, thankfully, very durable. He'd be hurting for a couple days, but nothing too bad.

"I guess being self taught has it's problems sometime," Joxer said.

He still wasn't getting off his back.

"Self taught?" Billy asked in despair. He held out a hand to help him up if he wished.

"Joxer, might I suggest that you seek out someone who really knows what they're doing and get some proper training?"

Joxer made an undignified face.

"No need to rub it in," he said.

"I'm sorry," Billy said sincerely. "But I come from a place where if you get into fights and haven't been trained for it, you die."

"Yeah, well, you just got lucky," Joxer said, getting to his feet. "And next time I'll be wearing my armor."

"Armor's good." Billy said. "How well can you move around in it? I've seen how most knights....nevermind that's after your time."

Billy was disapointed. And really very scared for Joxer. Going around with a name like The Mighty was asking for trouble, and if the guy wasn't ready for it...

"I move fine," Joxer said. "Why do you think I wear it all the time?" He was even starting to put it back on.

"Good point." Billy looked at his armor. "Huh, you know that design looks similar to the kind samurai wore. Sort of."

"Which is weird, cause I've only seen samurai on the magic box," Joxer said.

"That is weird."

but considering how much anchient greece looks like New Zealand, we shouldn't be surprised.

"Yeah," Joxer said, tightening the strap on his helmet. "I'm gonna go back to my room."

Totally not to scream in pain and cry.

"Hot shower always felt good after my early sparring sessions." Billy said. then inwardly winced. He really hadn't meant to rub it in.
