The Roof, Friday Afternoon (After Classes)

Cally had made a phone call or two before coming to the roof. She'd brought a couple tin cups with her, and headed straight over to where the Viper had it's first batch of brew on tap.

It was taste testing time.

Just, you know, she wasn't going to be dumb enough to try it first.

Nadia's voice could be heard long before she appeared on the roof. "For the last time, Pete, I am not inviting you up to the roof to sleep with you!"

"Callin' me up on the Telliefern, tellin' me that you and that Cally woman want me to 'taste' somethin' for ya up on the roof in private like, sounds like a men-ah-jay troy to me."

There was a thwacking noise, and some thunking, and then Nadia finally arrived on the roof.

"Pete will be up in a minute."

"I think he deserved that," Cally said. She eyed the tap and her cups. "I really hope this isn't lethal."

Nadia kinda hoped it might be.

"I know first aid."

"Me too," Cally said. "I just--"

"What's going on?" Joxer hit the roof with a bit of a clatter, waaaay too happy for what was about to happen to him.

Pete stumbled up a short ways behind Joxer. "No, I'm sorry, there is absolutely no way that I will get involved in that sort of behavior with Joxer. It might serve to damage our precious friendship."

"What might?" Joxer looked confused. "I just got a call on my phone thing, and I was told I wanted to come up here..."

"These ladies here have got it into their brains to do somethin' mighty kinky with us, Joxer." Pete nodded seriously. "Possibly with tentacles."

"No tentacles!" Joxer squeaked.

At nearly the same time, Nadia responded as well:

"No, we don't! Cally, just give them the booze."

Pete brightened. "Booze?"

Cally quickly opened up the tap on the still and filled the two cups, then shut the tap and held out the cups.

"Here. Take. Drink. Don't die."

"Well I don't know why you couldn't have just said that in the first place." Pete took the proffered cup and half turned towards Joxer. "They're probably attemptin' to lubricate us past the point of sobriety so as to take advantage of our gentlemanly natures."

Then he drank.

Nadia watched carefully.

Pete smacked his lips and let out a cheerful burp.

Then, hand still pressed to his face, cheerful expression not changing in the least, his eyes rolled up in his head and he collapsed forward.

Joxer took one look at Pete, and then the offered cup, back at Pete, then back at the cup.

"I ain't touching that!"

Cally eeped. "Someone check his pulse?"

"That requires touching him."

Pete didn't move.

"Well I'm not touching him!"

Cally fixed her somewhat panicked expression on Joxer.

"What're you looking at me for?!"

Pete . . . still didn't move.
