Fifth Floor Common Room, Monday Evening

Bel was sprawled on the couch, remote in hand, flipping through the channels in search of something relaxing to watch. Maybe that would help settle his mood.

The Discovery channel documentary on hunting habits of wild animals was right out.

Nadia was just getting back from having spent most of her day sitting on the beach staring at the water and wishing it was warm enough out for her to swim without risking getting sick.

She wasn't in the best of moods, then, when she spotted Bel in the common room.

"Nice job on Cally's eye, by the way. Guess when you give a demonstration, it's really interactive, isn't it."

"Screw you," Bel said calmly, keeping his eyes on the TV.

Dawn poked her head into the common room. "There you are!"

"You? Never. But so very nice of you to offer." Nadia walked calmly across the room to get herself a bowl of ice cream.

"Good, one less thing I have to worry about," Bel muttered.

"Hey," Bel said. "What's up?"

"I'm here to distract you and do absolutely no soul-searching whatsoever," she announced, plopping herself down on the floor. "What're we watching?"

"Um...." Bel peered at the TV, cocking his head. "It looks like some sort of interior decorating show."

"Why?" Dawn blurted, then realized how that might sound. "I mean, do you like watching interior decorating?"

"I was just channel surfing!" Bel protested. "It's where I landed when you came in!"

She started giggling. "I wasn't implying anything about your masculinity, Bel, I swear, and I don't care what we watch--it just seemed like a weird choice for you. How was the dance? Was Phoebe surprised?"

Bel smiled goofily. "Yeah, she had the time of her life," he said. "It was a great evening, most of it."

Marie had been ignored in favor of the mun's alumni character pretty antisocial since the dance and decided she should get out and talk to people, so she made her way to the common room.

"Hey, Bel," she greeted.

"Hey, Marie," Bel said. "How are you doing?"

"Oh, yay! You get huge points for pulling off a successful surprise," Dawn told him, then added a bit hesitantly, "And I'm sorry about the stuff that wasn't so great."

"Good," Marie smiled. "How are you? Did you and Phoebe have a good time on Friday?"

Marie never listened to radio so she had no clue about any of the bad stuff Bel had been up to lately.

"Oh. That hurts. Really. Burns me up inside." Nadia rolled her eyes and settled in at the table to eat her ice cream.

"No big shock with Echolls there," Bel said, waving it off. "How was your Homecoming?"

Again with the goofy smile. "Yeah, we had a great time," he said. "How about you?"

He wasn't the only one with a goofy smile. "Yeah, it was great."

"Glad to hear it," Bel said, turning up the volume on the TV.

She grinned just as goofily as Bel had earlier. "It was good. Really, really good."

Nadia ate her ice cream in silence for a moment and wished Bel would just go away.

That didn't seem to be working.

"So have you thanked Walter, yet?"

"Good, so I don't have to beat up Jamie or anything, right?" Bel said.
