5th Floor Common Room, Early Friday Afternoon

JD was feeling a bit depressed, what with parents weekend and his father off in Oklahoma selling pencils. So he was in the common room, drinking something that looked supiciously like an appletini and making little orgami cranes. Lots of orgami cranes.

Sure, the fifth floor was far away from the third, but the twins liked to wander, especially when they were bored.

Teddy couldn't recall ever having been up on the fifth floor before. Except when he went up to the roof, but those brief seconds of fifth floor-iness didn't count in his mind.

"That's a lot of cranes," Teddy said, mostly to himself.

JD looks up from his cranes for a moment, and nods hello. He also pushes a few peices of paper in the twins direction, in case they also want to make cranes.

A very piratical man stomps up the steps and enters the 5th floor common room.

"This the 5th floor?" He asks gruffly.

JD stares at the pirate, momentarily forgetting his depression.

"Ahoy and avast, matey!"

JD doesn't even look up. "Yeah, 127 to be exact."

He finishes the one he's working on. "Make that 128."

The twins happened to be crane-making experts, so they sat down to join him. "Any reason for all the cranes?"

JD shrugged. "Trying to get to 1000. I hear after that, you get a wish."

The twins, also making cranes with JD looked up and waved to Teddy. "Hey there!"

Teddy nudged one of the tiny paper cranes with his foot. "Huh."

"Hey guys," Teddy replied, waving back. "Having fun?"

"That, or you can cure a sick person." They quickly added more colorful birds to his collection. "You seem determined, anything you plan on wishing for?" Kaoru made a flapping one and put it into the pile.

Teddy stared blankly, because, despite having a pirate on the radio, it was a bit weird to see one in the common room.

"As much fun as paper cranes can provide." Hikaru commented, tossing another multicolored bird into their pile. "You know how to fold cranes?"

JD kept working on his cranes. He knew he was being a bit sulky, but he didn't really care.

"You want some paper? It's fun."

Teddy shook his head. "No, but I can fold one mean paper airplane."

"Not sure yet. But it's passing the time."

Maybe 200 pounds of chocolate pudding.

Teddy sat down. "Sure. But no guarantees that my cranes look anything like, well, cranes."

JD dug around in the pile, until he found something that looked like a demented duck with a growth disorder.

"This was my first one."

He seems to be cheering slightly as more people are making cranes.

The crane certainly was special. Teddy grinned and grabbed one of the pieces of paper.

He spent several minutes works diligently on his crane, then held it up for inspection.

It looked kinda like a giraffe with a hunchback.

"Ooo!" Hikaru waved some papers at him. "Let's see who's goes the farthest!"

Not many people know this, but "avast" means "stop".

"Avast? AVAST?!" The pirate whips his head in JD's direction sending a small spray of sea water flying. "Where do ye get off given' me orders ya poncy little minnow? I'll have ye know I've made men eat their own lips fer less!"

"Well?"
