Room 408

The office seemed to be stocked with people with odd skin conditions, but after checking in, the short green man had handed her a key and a room number, 408. Carrying her things to the fourth floor Ami unlocked the door and peered around curiously. There were two beds, so presumably she had a roommate. No one was there yet though, so Ami put her suitcase down, picked a closet and started unpacking. She rather hoped her roommate was someone nice and perhaps quiet.

Laptop went on the desk, as did a photo of her mother and a separate one of her father.

Naomi had handwavily been out for a while and when she came back to her room she was surprised to find the door open. She couldn't remember leaving the door open but then she remembered that new students were arriving today and that probably meant that her new roommate must have arrived.

She entered the room, "hi," she said with a smile when she saw Ami.

Ami looked up from where she was rearranging her parents photographs for perhaps the seventh time on her desk.

Seeing the new person enter the room she quickly jumped up and bowed.

"Hello. My name is Mizuno Ami."

"I'm Naomi Wildman," Naomi said, "it's nice to meet you,"

"Likewise" Ami smiled tentatively. "Do you also live in this room?" Her accent was noticeable but not severe. Again she tried not to stare, as she noticed the horns on her roommate's forehead.

"I've been living in here since the 2006 Fall Semester," Naomi replied with a smile, she was used to people staring at her horns by now and she supposed that with the new students who were coming in that was going to happen more frequently.

"Oh excellent. Then you know where everything is? Cafeteria? Library? Oh, i am sorry, i should not ask so many questions." Ami had stopped staring. Perhaps those were ornamental, like bindi dots?

"That's alright," Naomi replied, "I'd be happy to show you where everything is,"

"Ohaio. Thank you. Oh, i am terribly sorry, i should tell you more about myself. My name is Mizuno Ami, and everyone calls me Ami. I am here as a freshman, and i am from Tokyo, Japan."

"Well I'm Naomi, I'm a freshman as well and I'm from San Francisco, California, except where I'm from it's the year 2381," Naomi said.

That caused Ami to blink several times. "2381? In... in the future?"

"Well the future in my dimension anyway," Naomi replied, "Fandom is rather strange in regards to time,"

"It is? What year is it here?"

"It's 2007 here,"

Ami nodded. "Alright. That is the same as where i am from. So, there are people here from different times? Really?"

"You've got people here from all over," Naomi replied, "future, current time and past,"

"Oh." Ami sat down in her chair. "That is... quite unusual, is it not?"

"It is rather strange," Naomi said, "it was quite a shock when I arrived in Fandom and learnt last year that it was the year 2006 and not 2380,"

"I can imagine." Ami shook her head slightly, and adjusted her glasses. "It must have been hard."

"It was at first," Naomi replied, "I had never been to a school before I came to Fandom, but it wasn't so bad once I settled down,"

"Really? Never to school? Did your parents teach you at home?" Ami did not mean to pry but she was curious.

"My parents didn't teach me specifically," Naomi explained, "but I was homeschooled,"

Ami nodded. "I had a friend who was as well. He did very well at the university when it was time for him to go there." She paused looking down, but then encouraged by the apparent friendliness of her roommate asked "So, other then time being different for some, is there anything else... odd here?"

"Well the island seems to get invaded a lot," Naomi replied, she figured Ami was going to learn about the invasions eventually and she classed the island getting invaded as odd.

"Invaded? As in armies and bombs and soldiers?"

"Well last semester we were invaded by trolls," Naomi replied, "apparently there's an invasion every semester here,"

"Oh. Was it dangerous? Did many people get injured?" Ami tried to recall if the brochure mentioned a hospital nearby.

"Well I was taken captive by them, along with several other people, and I spent most of the weekend unconscious," Naomi replied, "there were some injuries but no one was killed,"

Ami covered her mouth with a hand, to hide a gasp. "Oh my. I will have to be careful then i suppose."

"Fandom's pretty safe in general," Naomi said, "the trolls last semester was the only real danger that I'd encountered since arriving at Fandom,"

JOhn stumps past in a noisy way.

Ami noded. "That is good to know. I guess i will see what happenes this semmester."

Naomi smiled, "it should be a pretty interesting semester, life at Fandom is never boring,"

"As long as there is enough quet time to stud." Ami motioned to her stack of books "I am good with a little interest in the semester." She smiled.
