You think those things shine themselves?

He has an improbably large bowl of popcorn, a bottle of wonka root beer, and some television program about people who unexpectedly develop superpowers. It's surprisingly good. The program, that is, although the popcorn and root beer are excellent, too.

It wasn't hard to guess who would be in the common room when one smelled popcorn and shoe polish from down the hall.

Nadia went to pounce on Walter.

Pippi walks into the common room and heads right for the kitchenette.

She's going to make meatballs.

Swedish meatballs.

Walter grinned and put his shoe aside before one of them ended up polished and grabbed at his pouncing girlfriend.

"...how was the popcorn popped?" Cally asked as she came in.

"Hey." Walter turned around to watch her. "Need any help?"

"In a pan with a bit of oil, how else?" To the devil with those fancy poppers.

"But what sort of oil?" Cally asked.

Somehow, Nadia ended up neatly on his lap. "Hey."

"Rapeseed oil."

"You look like you're in a good mood," he observed, happily settling in with a warm girl in his lap. "Good."

"Was just double-checking it wasn't, like... animal oil. Or something," Cally said, snagging some. "Thanks!"

Animal oil... and Mac was a vegan... "You stopped eating meat, didn't you?"

"It was bound to happen eventually," Nadia agreed. "I should warn you, though, I potentially have another date."

"All animal products," Cally said. "Yep. Veganism is now me."

Walter rubbed his nose against her cheek. "Should I be jealous?"

He left his shoes on the newspaper and padded into the kitchenette. "At your service, Miss Longstocking."

"I remember you saying you wouldn't do that," Walter said slowly.

"Hmm, I don't know," She snuggled into him an eensy bit more. "I did date this other guy first, after all. . . ."

"Ahh...." Hey, hadn't that been about a year ago? "So, if I send you with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with habanero jelly, would I be thinking of the right date?"

Pippi smiled at him as she got the ingredients out of the fridge.

"... That was really you wasn't it?"

"So, you're not eating meat for ethical reasons now?" Walter didn't have much hesitation about killing humans, animals didn't get much of a second thought from him.
