The grounds, Tuesday evening

Jim kind of liked the rain. Besides, he was feeling the need to stretch his legs and so was outside for a walk, not caring about the mud that was gradually creeping up the back of his jeans. His hands were jammed in his pockets as he walked, listening to the different sounds that the rain made as it hit the ground, leaves, his jacket, the buildings, trying to sort through them all.

Teddy needed time away from Chad, even though it was really nice being able to spend so much time with him. He wanted to go flying, but the rain kinda put a damper on that so he went out to do some good ol' fashioned puddle jumping.

He waved at Jim, wiping some water off of his face.

"Hey," Jim said quietly, nodding towards him. Hey, echolocation was kind of cool.

"Fun, huh?" Teddy said, holding is arms out to his sides and letting the rain hit him.

Jim grinned, turning his face up into the rain. "Yeah. Fun. No idea why everyone's staying in."

"Probably worried about getting sick," Teddy replied, rolling his eyes. "It's totally worth it. I haven't done this since... I can't remember."

Tori loved the rain. She loved water in general, but there was just something about being out in the rain. Where she currently was.

She had wanted to take a walk and this had seemed like a good time as any. As Tori walked the grounds, she occassionally swirled water in her hands and through the air, having a bit of fun.

Well that was weird. Jim looked towards her sharply, the strange sound of the swirling water jerking him out of his half-daze.

"I can't remember. That's pretty long ago."

Tori wasn't really paying attention, otherwise she would've known she had an audience. She made a figure eight with the water and then let it fall to the ground, the water turning back into rain drops.

She grinned and looked up, noticing the person watching her. "Hi." Tori grinned sheepishly and waved.

Teddy laughed. "A completely valid measure of time!"

"Would that be longer or shorter than a 'knee-high to a grasshopper'?"

"Hey," he said, moving closer curiously. "What were you doing?"

"Oh. I was water bending." Tori answered, using the term Katara had given her.

"Water bending?" Jim asked with a frown. "What's that?"

"Well, that's what Katara calls it." Tori admitted. She explained her power to control water (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tori_Hanson#Tori_Hanson) and created a ball of water in her hand to demonstrate. "That's what I can do."

Jim watched, a bit wide-eyed. ". . . whoa."

And he thought his stuff was weird.

Tori smiled brightly, laughing a tiny bit at his reaction. "Yeah, that's how I was when I first learned how to do that." She extended her hand, realizing she was being rude. "I'm Tori, by the way."

"Jim," he said, shaking her hand. "That's . . . really cool. How - how did people react when they found out you can do that?"

"Oh, you must be Lana's boyfriend." Tori realized, glad to be finally meeting him. "It's nice to meet you, I've heard great things about you."

She smiled and shook her head in amusement. "Thanks. Well, only a few of my friends from home knew about it. They were cool with it, if not a little shocked." Tori explained. "Most of the people here are okay with it, too. Though a few weren't really sure how to take it, at first."

Jim chuckled and rubbed the back of his neck. "Yeah, I'm Lana's boyfriend. I think I need to get out more. How do you know Lana? Class?"

He did worry for a moment if he had accepted it too readily and she might get suspicious as to why, like he might have some kind of ability himself . . .

Tori grinned. "It's okay. I feel like I've met so many people and yet, I continue to meet more." She admitted.

"Yes. Lana and I have Conflict Management together and we're both on the cheerleading squad." She wondered if Lana had gone through with her thought.

Tori wasn't suspicious at all, she was used to people accepting her ability. No strings attached.

"You're a cheerleader, too?" Jim said with a smile. "You seem completely normal - well, other than, well, you know."

Tori laughed. "I know. I kind of got roped into trying out and made it." She shrugged. "It wasn't my thing back home."

"I wish we had a football team. That was my thing, but . . ." he shrugged.

"That would be fun to have. I'd enjoy be at those games." Tori admitted, with a small smile.

"I should try and rustle up some guys for a game sometime," Jim said thoughtfully. "If this rain ever stops."

"I'm sure they'd love that." Tori agreed. "Hopefully it will, so you guys can play." She loved the rain, but not when it postponed activities.

"Hey, we can always switch to water polo."

"Water polo works." Tori grinned. Any water sports were good with her.

"Or what's that thing, underwater hockey? Ever seen that?"

"Underwater hockey? This is the first time I'm hearing about it."

"Yeah, it was at this college my dad took me to see last year. They played it in a pool, there were snorkels and nets . . . I didn't really follow it, but it was pretty cool."

"Wow, it sounds like a lot of fun." Tori smiled.

"Well, if I ever figure out how to play it, I'll let you know."

Jim shook the water out of his hair and jammed his hands deeper in his pockets. "I'm getting past girlfriend-warming-up cold so I think I'm going to head in. Walk you back?"

Tori smiled and chuckled softly. "Yeah, it is a bit chilly out now. Sure, thanks."

Jim nodded and started heading towards the dorms. "Where are you from, anyway? Or when, I guess is a good question too . . ."

"Blue Bay Harbor, California." Tori answered, smiling. "Yeah, it is, I suppose. I'm from 2006 even though it really should be 2004, oh well! What about you?"

"Here and there, 2006," Jim grinned. "We move a lot, I've been bouncing between schools for a long time."

"That's got to be hard. I've been in Blue Bay Harbor all my life, so I honestly don't know what that's like." Tori admitted.

Jim shrugged one shoulder, looking up at the dorms. "It wasn't bad. Got a whole lot better when I got here, actually made friends . . . met Lana . . ."

Tori smiled, nodding. "Definitely sounds like it did." She had been nervous about coming to Fandom, but then she met the people here and the nerves had disappeared.

"Not to mention that it's the first place I haven't gotten kicked out if in a while."

Tori smiled warmly. "That's always a good thing."

"I think having Lana helps," Jim said quietly, a smile spreading across his face. "Never had a reason to stick around before."

Tori smiled, Jim's statement reminding her of Blake uttering a similar one last year. "It always nice when you have someone or something to look forward to."
