Having no classes today, River had slept in. Now she sat curled up on the couch, a bowl of popcorn and ice cream in one hand and a pen in the other, working on a rather complex drawing involving large amounts of fish.

"Fish," Buffy commented, joining her. Her breakfast consisted of cereal and juice, but now that she saw what River had she was reconsidering this.

River nodded. "Fish." She had nearly finished her ice cream. "Dawn and I painted a vampire and a slayer in dust yesterday in Home Ec."

Blair wandered up in between classes, trying to see if he could track down River. Seeing her on the couch, he waved. "Hey."

River looked up and smiled. "Hello." She felt a little nervous, but thought she hid that quite well.

Buffy snorted. "In the dust?"

River shook her head. "We added dust to the clean floor. And glitter."

"How're you doing?" Blair asked, taking a seat. He was really happy to see her.

"...I bet that made you popular," Buffy giggled.

"Good. Drawing. You?" She extended a curled up leg and poked him with her toe. "No more skating?"

She was happy to see him too, of course.

"We had fun. More important than being popular," River replied, then threw a popcorn at Buffy. "What have you been doing?"

Buffy caught the popcorn and ate it. "Nothing much. Being woeful that break has ended. There's a practical assignment in Hunting today though. That should be fun."

"I'm really great." Blair said with a bounce. "And nope. I think my butt will thank me if I never skate again."

"Oh? Hunting what?" River grinned.

River giggled at that, holding back the urge to give him a hug. She threw a pink pen at him though, trying not to throw too hard.

Blair caught the pen and smiled. "So what have you been up to lately? I haven't seen you since the day of the carnival?"

"Nothing much," River said, perhaps a little too quickly. "Drawing. Classes. You?"

"Yeah?" Blair tilted his head at her, not sure what the quick answer was about. "Went to the Wasteland over the weekend and helped to bring Bel back. Other than that, it's just classes."

River looked curious. "Wasteland? Bel's not dead?"

"It was this really...red place. Sorta like some kind of limbo for demons, I guess." Blair said, not mentioning fighting the giant tongues. "But nope! No dead Bel! It's actually pretty awesome!"

River nodded happily. She might not know Bel very well, but she still appreciated him being alive. Although... "Not evil anymore?" she asked.

And then she frowned. "Giant tongues?" That was odd.

"Not sure yet." Buffy shrugged. "Some kind of evil shapeshifter, I guess."

"Nope." Blair said, giving a sigh of relief. "He feels really bad about the evilness too."

River nodded, content to hear that Bel was no longer evil. Even if Blair might be an unreliable source on the subject, someone else should have reacted.

"Licked you?" River frowned again and then looked worried. "Could have defended you," she said automatically, then fell silent, remembering the last time she'd done that.

"Oh. How is it evil and how do you identify it if it shifts shape?"

"Licked me." Blair nodded with a laugh. "It would have been nice to have you along. You would have kicked the tongue's butts. If they have them."
