1st floor lobby, Monday after classes

"Trees are to be treasured!" Tributary yelled, marching around the lobby carrying a sign decorated with a crying tree. "Not used for toilet paper!"

Blair waved his own sign, a roll of toilet paper with a big X over it, at River and grinned. She and Ananda were standing on the sidelines, acting as either bodyguards or very silent protesters. With a tired look, River directed Blair's attention to Tributary. Kid-watching was easier when you could read what they were thinking about doing.

"Uh, sweetie?" Blair hurried over and started dragging her away from the front doors. "Let's work on not defacing public property during this protest. Daddy doesn't need any more detentions."

Mommy was doing mommy things so Sebastian wandered around until he came all the way downstairs where he saw his girlfriend carrying a sign that he didn't get.

He slowly walked over to her, glancing at the big people as he passed them.

"Hi, Tribtary. Whatcha doing?"

River would have said no, but Tributary had asked her with all the emotions of a mental hug, and when River had first said no, the girl had felt so tormented that River had had to curl up on the floor for a while. Now Tributary was back to mental hugging again.

River gave Ananda an apologetic look. Sorry.

"Protesting." Tributary said before noticing just who was asking her. "Oh, it's you. I don't like you anymore."

She brandished her sign like a very large papery weapon.

Sebastian asked, "Protesting what?" Then he frowned. "I didn't not like you first."

Tiffany was actually looking for the gym, but the sight of the protesters made her stop and stare. She spotted aunt River and sidled over to her. "Auntie? What are they doing?"

"Non-recycled toilet paper." Tributary said and stomped her foot. "Nuh-uh! I didn't not like you way before you didn't not like me!"

"That's ridiculous. People can't use the same toilet paper again. Gross!" Sebastian stomped his foot and added a sticking out tongue to it. "Did not! Cause I did not like you first before I even met that other girl who is cute too!"

Tributary rolled her eyes. "You're stupid. You don't use it again, you make it from recycled paper and stuff."

"Did too! I didn't like you all the way before I met you!"

"You're stupider." He blinked and jutted out his chin. Daddy said when you don't know what you're talking about, it's okay, just look smart and no one will be the wiser.

"That's impossible, Tribtary! I felt in here," he pressed a fist to his chest, over his heart. "When you liked me first and it was way before I even knew you were born!"

At least not another one of hers! River blinked. "Protesting the use of non-recycled toilet paper." She added: "I'm just here as bodyguard." And, as Ananda looked at her. "So is Ananda."

"You're a stupidhead!" Tributary said and stomped her foot again. She glanced over her shoulder to check out where her parents were standing and then back at Sebastian. "I did not like you then! You take that back or I'm going to hit you with my sign!"

"You are a...a...dumbbutt!" That's right, he said the B word!

"If you hit me with your sign I am going to have to break it!"

Aiden was exploring the building while his mommy was elsewhere. He knew not to go outside without her, so he was searching the different floors.

And he was now distracted by the people with the signs. Aiden wondered if he could march too, it looked like fun.

"Oooooh. You said butt! You're gonna be in trouble!" Tributary peeked over her shoulder again and then shook her head. "You can't break my sign. I need it for protesting!"

"Save the trees!" Tributary called to the new boy.

"Are they sick?" Aiden wondered. He wasn't really paying attention to the signs.

Tiff blinked. "Okay. In case people start throwing non-recycled toilet paper or something?"

She gave Ananda a smile. "Hi! I'm Tiff. Buffy is my mommy. Well, when she's bigger."

"No, they're being chopped up and made into toilet paper." Tributary waved her crying tree sign at Aiden. "Isn't that sad?"

"That's very sad." Aiden felt bad for trees. "They're being hurt. That's not nice."

"So! My mommy isn't here right now and if you tell I will say you lied! And you said butt too!" He nodded. "Can too. If you hit me with it, it's mine!"

"Not nice at all." Tributary ran over to her dad and came back with an extra sign. "Wanna help us protest?"

"I only said it cuz you said it and my mommy and daddy are right over there and I'll tell on you to them!" Tributary said. "Fine."

Dropping the sign on the floor, she went to go shove Sebastian.

Aiden's eyes lit up at the prospect of helping them. "Yes please!" He was excited. He got to march! "What do I have to do?"

"You just walk around and yell a lot." Tributary nodded and demonstrated, marching and hollering out across the lobby. "Save trees! Don't waste trees on waste!"

"Blair?" Broots's hair was standing pretty much straight up. "Why is our room covered in popcorn?"
