Kraken campfire, Sunday evening

Jude had ordered flowers for his mother and when he had called early that afternoon she had already gotten them and loved them. The rest of his cabin would have been treated to an hour of half a conversation in rapid-fire Polish, followed by Jude being a little mopey and homesick. So now he was chilling by the fire and trying not to miss his parents and the gang too much.

Rikku wandered out to the campfire and dropped a quick peck on Jude's forehead. "Off the phone? So, uh, what's a Mother's Day, anyway?"

"Yeah, finally," Jude said, offering a little smile up at her. "It's this day when you're supposed to show how much you love your mom. Breakfast in bed, flowers, take her out to dinner . . ."

"Oh, that sounds nice." Rikku smiled. "What were you guys talking about? Oh, that's kinda personal, huh? Is she bummed 'cause you're here for it and all?"

"Yeah, I'm kinda bummed about it too. I sent her flowers though, and she's going out dancing with Dad tonight."

He looked a little sad about that, despite his smile.

"Flowers are good. And you called." Rikku nodded. "I'm sure they understand." There was still a sympathetic squeeze on his shoulder.

"Is there, uh, a day like that for dads? It'd be nice to do something for Pops. Weird, but still nice."

"Yeah, it's sometime in June. Not as big a deal as Mother's Day, for some reason." Jude reached out and tugged her down to sit beside him.

She hopped down, crossing her legs and watching the fire. "That's kind of a shame. That it isn't, I mean. Not really fair to dads. Maybe they're harder to shop for. Guys don't really like flowers." She shrugged.

"Yeah . . . and usually, y'know, moms get like no props for what they do all the time for us. Father's Day I usually just chill with him or we go golfing or something."

"Oh. Dads don't do as much? I didn't realize. That's kinda unfair, but in a different way." She considered. "Are there sibling days, too, or is it just parents?"

"Just parents." Jude considered. "I think. Then I'd get another day to be bummed."

"Hi Jude!" Robin called. He'd found a twig to use as a walking stick and was getting acquainted with the campground.

"Hey, little frog dude," Jude greeted him mellowly, holding up a closed fist for bumping. "How's it hangin'?"

Robin was ignorant of this particular greeting, but he was a quick learner. He followed suit with the fist. "Pretty good." he said. "I'm meeting all sorts of nice people."

"Awesome. People are pretty nice around here. Well, most of them. Some really need to find their mellow."

"Um . . . I got warned against Parker when I first got here? But not really, dude."

"'Cause you don't have any?" Rikku shrugged with a wistful smile. "Kinda not feeling so cheery about the whole mom's day thing myself. Same reason."

Jude wrapped an arm around her shoulders and kissed her forehead. "I'm sorry."

"I haven't met anyone named Parker yet. Does anyone else skateboard?"

Rikku snuggled in. "S'okay. I'm sorry about your mom. That you miss her, I mean."

New topic. Better topic. Maybe. "Hey, uh. Do you remember ... uh. When I kinda went on a ... mutiny? Against Hades and rules and stuff like that?"

Rikku giggled a little and waved. "Whoa, dude! Hi!" She'd heard about turtles, but not a way-cute frog.
