Fourth floor common room: Quite early Thursday morning

Karal woke early, from a vaguely disturbing dream that escaped his grasp even as he tried to remember it, leaving him unsettled.

Moving silently, he put on his Vkandis medal, gathered up a small candle and his notebook, and followed as Altra led the way down the hall to the common room. There, he made tea and lit the candle, sitting cross legged on the couch while he stared into the flame, meditating.

Make that trying to meditate, and he couldn't stop the frustrated sigh at his failure.

:You're trying too hard, Karal. Relax,: Altra said from his perch on the back of the couch.

"I have to try, Altra. It's important."

Altra rolled his eyes as Karal went back to staring at the candle.

[ooc: As it is a common room, so is it open! I am ~~on the train, so I might lose connection, but I will be back~~ finally home yay.]

Ami was up early. Ami had two workshops today. So Ami was in the common room, getting breakfast. Noticing a guy she did not know trying to meditate, she tried to be very very careful and quiet.

Altra was watching her out of the corner of his eye, but otherwise ignored her.

Karal was completely failing to meditate, so he leaned forward and blew out the flame. "Good morning," he said quietly, turning to lean on the back of the couch so he wouldn't have his back to her. "We have not yet met. I'm Karal, and this," he nodded at the 'cat and smiled, "is Altra."

"Good morning" Ami said as she sat down with her cereal and juice. "I am Ami, it is a pleasure to meet you Karal, Altra. I am horribly sorry to disturb your meditation" She glanced at the cat and asked "Do you talk, or just a cat?"

It was always a difficult question, and he brushed a hand through his hair as he looked ro Altra for guidance. Who yawned and went to sleep. "Well, he does not talk, precisely, but he's not quite ordinary," he said hesitantly. "Though I am sure everyone says that about their cat. It is good to meet you Ami, and you disturbed nothing, so please do not concern yourself."

"Meditation wasn't working eh? I hate when that happens. As for talking cats... I turned into one a while back. So hence the question."

Karal blinked in surprise, though it was more at her casual acceptance of the transformation than at the idea itself. "Oh. Well, that must have been--" He paused and then laughed quietly. "Actually, I have no idea how that must have been."

"it was... strange" Ami said chuckling. "But that is Fandom for you. Stay away form Special Collections in the library, that is what did it to me..." She grinned. "Lots of cool things in there though. I take it you are new this summer and i haven not just been hiding out doing my homework too much?"

"That sounds like excellent advice, especially considering I rather like the library," he said with a small grin. "Thank you. And yes, I am new. I have been here for," he frowned as he did the calculations, then looked surprised, "for rather longer than I thought I had. An entire month. Time seems to go by quickly here."

"Time flies when you are having fun?" Ami asked, using one of the phrases they had to learn in English class back home.

"I am a big fan of the library myself. good place to do homework." she grinned, glad to meet another person who was into reading.

"I fear in my case it has been more of a time flies when you are totally bewildered," he admitted, "though there has been fun moments, as well." He stretched a bit and reached for his tea, which was now rather cold, but still good. "It is, and it is a good place to find quiet and peace. Though when I first saw it it was rather chaotic. It seemed as if not a single book remained on the shelves!"

"I believe it has been straightened out. I was there a few times helping re shelve things and it has had great progress." Ami said, and noticing his tea grinned. "Ah another tea fan. In this world of coffee drinkers, we are few and far between."

"It truly has, which is a relief. A library should be in order." Karal took a sip of his tea and nodded in acknowledgement. "I do like coffee," he admitted, "though it's not common where I come from. This is Karsite tea, though, and it reminds me of home. I could make you some if you'd like?"

"Where is home?" Ami asked. "And I would love some, but you shouldn't trouble yourself on my account"

"It is no trouble at all," he assured her. "Mine is cold and, no matter how much it reminds me of home, it is better warm." He smiled as he stood with his mug and made his way to the kitchen, setting the kettle to boil - and he did love the convenience of it - before turning back to her. "Home is a country called Karse, which is very, very far away, in another dimension, if I understand it correctly. And you? Are you from here, or from another place?"

"Well. I am from Japan which is a country that exists here. but i am not sure if it is really here. for example i think i am from a different Japan then Setsuna-chan is from." Ami joined him in the kitchen, just to keep the conversation going. "This place is dimensionally complicated, like a nexus of gates maybe."

"Oh! You know Setsuna?" Karal smiled at that, leaning back on the counter. "She is going to attempt to teach me to use the sword," he said, not that he was overly optimistic about how that was going to go. "And this place, yes, complicated is a very good word. I didn't even know there were planets, or dimensions, or people in space before I came here. My world doesn't even have a name for itself, just the countries. It makes my head ache if I think about it too much."

"Oh yes, she is my best friend. And roommate. And sword-teacher." Ami grinned, blushing slightly.

Karal tilted his head at the blush, curious, but not wanting to ask. "That is a lot of things!" he said with a small smile. "She is someone I count as a friend, and I feel lucky for that." The kettle whistled and he turned to switch it off, quickly assembling two mugs of tea and offering one to Ami. "It is quite strong, and has a smoky flavour compared to the tea I have had here. I hope you like it."

Ami smelled the tea, closing her eyes as she did so. "Oh, how fascinating" she said and took a sip. "It is most excellent. But you are right very different from what is around here." She grinned and looked up. "Have you had green tea?"

"I don't think so," he said, closing his eyes as he, too, inhaled the scent of the tea. "Is it tea that's not yet ripe?"

"Sort of. It is tea that is processed differently when drying. Less oxidation i believe. It tastes different. I can make you some sometime, it is what is most popular in my home country." she smiled. "cultural exchange and all that."

"I would like that very much, thank you, Ami." Karal smiled and gestured back to the couch. "Shall we sit somewhere more comfortable than the kitchen?"

"Sure" Ami followed towards the couch. "So, what did you mean when you said he wasn't quite ordinary?" Ami asked gesturing to Altra.

"He is-- " Altra?

The 'cat considered him through slitted eyes. :Tell her I am like a guardian,: he finally said.

" --a kind of guardian. I am a priest of Vkandis Sunlord, and he is part of that."

"Oh... That is pretty cool." Ami said smiling at the seemingly sleeping cat. "That is... what i had turned into, a guardian. Of a very annoying Princess unfortunately."

Karal smiled and stroked Altra. "You were the cat guardian to an annoying princess?" he asked. "Was the princess a real princess, or did you imagine her?"

"Oh no, Setsuna-chan turned into the Princess. It was highly bizarre, as we were not aware of our real selves fro that entire day. but we retained all information afterwards."

"I have experienced that sort of oddness," he admitted. "Though I do not know how it happened. One moment I was myself, the next I was a most unpleasant individual. Do you know what caused your transformation?"

"I think, it was a book we were looking at in the special collections of the library. It caused us to become some of the individuals in it."
