Third Floor Common Room [evening]

Aravis had been out for an evening walk, and had finally settled in a common room a floor down from her usual one.

She'd begun flipping through the channels, and settled on something that made her eyes go huge. She wasn't entirely certain why the very large car things were trying to kill the smaller cars (or if you could "kill" cars, really, but they were certainly crushing them well) or why the crowds were cheering.

And sadly no matter how much she wanted to change it, she couldn't tear her eyes away.

Naminé heard the noise and lingered in the doorway, staring at the television. "Are they ... destroying those vehicles? And if so, why?"

"I don't know," Aravis said, staring at the television. "But it's fascinating. I think it's some sort of ritual."

"Were the vehicles bad, perhaps?" Naminé asked with a light smile. "This shall be their punishment: we'll get a very large oversized vehicle to make them very smashed, and let that be a lesson to you all."

"They must have been very naughty," Aravis said, eyes wide as a smirk tugged at her lips. "Since I don't know that anything I've done has warranted being smashed."

"The crowd's rather bloodthirsty," Naminé mused. "I wonder if those are the victims or their loved ones. One hates to think people at large are just cheering on mindless destruction."

"Wouldn't surprise me," Aravis said, tilting her head. "It's a bit cheer-worthy, anyway. Just the sheer amount. It takes considerable effort to be that destructive."

"Does it?" Naminé asked, tilting her head slightly. "Seems like you just need something very large, and entropy will handle the rest, really."

"Entro-what?" Aravis asked, blinking.

"Entropy," repeated Naminé softly. "All things fall apart. Heavy things fall to the ground. Everything that has been created, will be destroyed. It's inevitable. Entropy. Sort of ... science, mixed with pessimism, I suppose."

Aravis raised her eyebrow. "Everything that's been created will be destroyed? Everything? When?"

"Hey, there." Still damp from the very long shower he'd taken first thing upon getting back to Fandom, Seely totally hadn't been searching for Aravis, really.

Aravis tore her eyes away from the television, and smiled up at him. "Hello. Did you enjoy the woods?"

Naminé shook her head quickly. "Not everything all at once. Just that ... each thing will fall apart or wear down eventually, as that's what happens. It's ..."

She looked down. "My apologies. I seem to be more despondent than my usual, tonight, and it's making me rather poor company."

"They were fun," Seely smiled and leant over the back of the couch to nuzzle her cheek. "Would have been more fun if I'd had a more Tarkheena-ish tentmate."

"Who was in your tent?" she asked, tilting her head back to give him a proper kiss hello.

Aravis shook her head. "I just never thought of that, though I suppose it makes sense. Even the towers of Tashbaan will someday be ruins, through nature if not human influence."

Seely grinned into the kiss, sliding his hand around to cup her head. "Some girl called Savannah, I think she's in Aly's class."

"You shared a tent with a girl who was not me?" Aravis asked, raising her eyebrows at him. "How was your weekend otherwise?"

"Not because I wanted to," Seely pouted just a little. "Aly made the tent assignments. But I got her during paintball so it evened out a little."

Naminé shrugged lightly. "You could view it differently, that things fall apart in order to clear the way for new creations. Perhaps we'd cling to the old and never embrace the new if it weren't ripped from our hands, at times. But ... sometimes it seems more like things fall apart because that's their essence. That everything is only pretending to hold itself up when you're looking and will topple over with the slightest breath of the wind."

"Good," Aravis said approvingly. "What is a paintball?"

"Little round balls of paint you shoot at people," Seely said, rubbing his chest. "They kinda hurt."

Aravis frowned, her approval evaporating. "Are you hurt?"

"Just a little bruised," Seely said, smiling. "I didn't get hit very much."

"Good, then," Aravis said, a bit more pleased. "You were good at it."
