Second Floor Common Room - Saturday Night

Dick had to go camping this weekend for Scouting and since going outside was no longer an option he called Annette and told her to meet him in the common room. Hey, he wasn't going to be sleeping in a bed. That was camping to him.

[Dick and Annette will be "camping" out here tonight. Anyone is free to join in!]

"Hi," she said walking in with two big sacks full of stuff.

"I still get to help pitch the tent right?"

Dick boggled at the stuff Annette was carrying. "What is in those bags?"

"You can set up the tent if you want." he said. "Or we could just sleep in our sleeping bags underneath the stars...er, ceiling."

She looked at the bags and grinned, "Well, I got camping food. You know, Twinkies and Ding-Dongs, and marshmallows, and crackers and cheese, and root beer, a couple flannel shirts in case we get cold. Some more rope," she gave him a sly look "But it's for emergencies only. Flashlights, a crossword book, some ear plugs..."

Annette looked slightly deflated, "But...I've never pitched a tent before. Is it...pitchable in the common room?"

Dick wondered if Annette knew they were indoors and could easily go into the kitchen for food. But whatever. It was kind of cute.

"We're going to have to move the couches out of the way." he said. And he wanted the tent facing the TV. Cause you know, if you're camping out the common room the TV was like a tree. Part of nature. And it should be awed over.

Yeah, she did, but she had got the stuff for their camping trip and now didn't want it to go to waste just cause they were in the common room.

She nodded, grinning, and set her bags down on the floor. Moving towards one of the couches, she started pushing it, "Come on, honey! Isn't this fun! It's nature indoors! I know some good ghost stories!" She didn't, but she was willing to make some up.

Dick grinned and help Annette pushing the other couch out of the way. "And even if you don't, I'm sure I've got some scary dvds in my room."

"Yeah, that will work." She said and looked around for the tent. "Uh, Dick? I don't have a sleeping bag. But I do have on some of those long underware garments to sleep in."

"That's okay, you can share mine with me." said Dick. He picked up the tent off the floor and dumped out the whole bag. "We're going to have to hook up all these pole things together."

Annette went to her knees when he dumped everything out. "The pole things. Got it. Is there intructions here? And I'll try not to steal sleeping bag covers," she said, grinning at him.

She was really wanting to do the tent, but if she didn't get it in like fifteen minutes, then it wasn't worth putting together. They could sleep under the ceiling like he said.

"Psh, instructions? You don't need instructions." Dick said. He picked up some of the pole things. "You just, uh, hook them up until you've got two arch things. Then you use more poles to hook the arch things together...there's a square involved somewheres here too."

"More poles, okay." Annette grabbed some poles and looked at them and just didn't know what the crap to do with them. "Here. I got them for you." Cause she was thoughtful like that.

"Aw, thanks." said Dick with a grin. He hooked a few together to make one arch. "You'd think I'd be able to do this quickly since I just did it on Tuesday..."

"Well, I imagine these things can be tricky, you know? What with so many poles and all. But you're doing a great job, sweetie!" She leaned over and started pulling out stuff from one of the sacks and stopped when she got to the Twinkies. Unwrapping one, she crossed her legs and ate it, watching her man hook up the tent.

"This camping is so great."

"Oh yeah, I'm having tons of fun." Dick said, unhooking two poles he had hooked wrong.

"Are you getting hot? Maybe you should take a break and eat a Twinkie. I hear when men get hot and irritated cause they can't get something right, they start throwing things and getting mad."

"Who did you hear that from? Cosmo?" asked Dick. He did get up and grab a Twinkie anyways.

"Well, Cosmo is a very informative magazine, Dick. You can learn all sorts of stuff reading it." She nodded and finished her Twinkie. Coming to her feet, she planted her hands on her hips and peered at the progress of the tent.

"So, how's it coming? Think it will be done pretty soon? Cause I'm ready to lay down now and hide inside it."

"Er..." All there was was an arch and a bunch of poles scattered about. "I'm not sure how soon it'll be done."

Annette sighed, "This camping stuff really takes some skills doesn't it? I just don't get where the knots come in at." She started to take off her clothes. But it was okay cause she had on those long underwear thingys underneath.

"Where's your sleeping bag?"

Dick pouted. Long underwear sucked. "It's rolled up over there on the floor."

She giggled at his pout and strutted in her camping wear. "What? You don't like them? I think they're kind of cute." She unrolled his sleeping bag and shook it out. "Is that tent going to be pitched pretty soon cause I need to get in this sleeping bag so I can take these long underwear things off. They may be cute, but I'm itching like crazy."

"Quit rushing me." he said. There was no way he was going to finish this in the next few minutes. So instead he kicked the poles out of the way and grabbed a few chairs from the kitchen table instead. He put them around in a circle and threw the tent covering over it. It was a very ugly, half-assed tent.

"There." he said. "Just like me and Beav used to make."

Annette blinked. Then she grinned. "Perfect. People should just do this in the wilderness," she snickered. "Save all kinds of time, geeze." She slipped the sleeping bag underneath the makeshift tent and got in it so that she was facing the TV.

"This is totally cozy. Oh. I don't have a pillow."

Dick grabbed one of the couch cushions and handed it over to Annette. "For someone who packed so much you sure forgot a lot."

"Hey, is that a crack at my great camping style?" she teased and took the pillow, shoving it up under her. After a second of trying to get comfortable, she took off the long underwear and flung them wide.

"Now, should we watch something scary and turn off all the lights?"
