Third floor common room, Sunday afternoon

After waking up this morning to what she had come to think of as "many, many words", Hermione wandered out into the common room just in case whatever was happening was limited to her room.

"Yeah, it's not," Hermione bit out from her seat in a cushy armchair. "Do you have to describe everything I do?"

Annoyed that she never seemed to get an answer to her questions, she tried to concentrate on her book and ignore the voice.

"Hey, Hermione," Turtle greeted her idly as she made her way into the common room, directly for the kitchenette. "You know if you guy've got any cinnamon in here? We're all out downstairs. Either that, or it's really well hidden..." She'd already started going through the cupboards.

"I'm sorry?" Turtle stopped the search momentarily to tilt her head curiously at Hermione. "I didn't say anything about saying anything." Her attention went back to a drawer. "Just cinnamon."

Turtle's eyes went a little wide and her mouth forms a little 'o.' Yup. This proved it. Hermione had probably studied herself to insanity and now she heard voices in her brainy little head. Probably the voices of, like, famous smart people, like Einstein and Fig Newton or something.

"Only voice I'm hearing is yours," she admitted. "Well, and mine. You feeling okay, Hermione? Maybe you should lie down..."

"Again? Has this happened before? Or was this another bout of the crazy?"

"Okay, okay, sorry!" Turtle said with a wrinkle of her nose and an apologetic tone. "Geez. I'm just worried, no need to get all uppity about it."

Turtle's nose wrinkled a little at how casually (aside from the occasional yelling) Hermione seemed to be taking it. "Think it's just a Fandom thing? If so, I think I'm glad I'm not getting it, because I don't think I could do voices in my head at all..."

She blinked, thinking of a few people who might be afflicted and take it even worse. She should really, really go check on Jeff before some sort of head explosion, oh man.

And Turtle followed Hermione's frown because she thought it might have meant something, but she guessed not. She shook her head. "Boy, I'm sure glad it's not me."

Turtle figured, after a minutely grumpy response like that, that she shouldn't mention her first comment, which would be to wish Hermione luck on that and, instead, decided to ask, while she was here, "You don't suppose it knows where the cinnamon is, do you?"

Lo and behold...

"Awesome," Turtle grinned a little as she finally managed to find a little container of it, behind the macaroni and cheese to the left of the stove, and then turned her grin toward Hermione with a little shake of the container her way. "Make sure to only use this power for good, and not evil."

"Don't really have a choice, though, do you?" Turtle reasoned. "I mean, if you have to put up with it anyway, you might as well try to get something out of it."

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2007-12-02 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"Cheating for what?" Turtle asked, giving Hermione a look that deemed her as crazy, and having nothing to do with the voices in her head anymore.

"See, but it's all about prospective," Turtle argued lightly. "You have to look at what you have, and what you're stuck with and instead of being all, 'this is annoying, rar,' you have to think of how it can help you, since you really can't do anything about it."
