5th floor common room, Saturday early evening

Annette was setting out cookies and milk for her daughter, while her daughter continued to paint, coloring picture after picture for her daddy.

"Hey, when are you going to paint me one?" Annette asked her, amused.

Aimee gave her a look, tilted her head, and said, "I don't  have to explain my art to you, mommy." Then she went back to her drawing.

"Just like your daddy," Annette murmured and sat down on the couch, flipping through channels while she kept one eye on the little girl.

"Daddy is going to like it," she told her mommy. "He will hang it up in his shop, mommy. Just like everything I paint for him."

"I know," Aimee told her. "I will paint you a flower. You love my flowers." She bent over her picture, tongue rolling over her bottom lip as she concentrated on her work.

Grace had managed to get away from her mother for a while, in the time-honored tradition of kids everywhere.

She wandered into the common room, looking for something to do.

Aimee looked up from her drawing, noticing the other little girl. "Hi."

"'Course I do," she said in a duh tone of voice. "Daddy buy's you orchids every week 'cause roses quit being your favorite along time ago."

"Hi!" Gwen whose mun just confused HER OWN FICTIONAL CHARACTERS said cheerfully.

"Would you like to come and paint with me?" Aimee offered. Her mommy taught her how to share a long time ago even though she didn't have any brothers or sisters.

"Sure," Gwen said, plopping down next to Aimee. "My name's Gwen. What's yours?"

"My name is Aimee. It starts with an A like my mommy and daddy's," she explained as she handed over a piece of paper and a paintbrush. "You can use any color you want, Gwen."

"Ooh, can I use green? I like green. It's my favorite."

"Uh-huh, cause green is the color of grass. I like blue. My mommy has blue eyes like me," she said, continuing to work on her painting. "I'm making mountains for daddy."

Aimee's eyes lit up and her little mouth fell open in a gasp. "Can I get a new dress?"

"Can I get my fingernails painted, mommy?" Oh yes, Aimee was such a little girl, despite her messy appearance with her painting.

"Yay! Daddy can come too this time! He never wants to come but we can make him, can't we mommy?"

Aimee ducked her head back over her drawing again. "Daddy should be with me now so he can see how nice this is turning out. Where's he at?"

Gwen frowned, not sure what she should make. But then she got an idea -- she'd paint her and her mommy and daddy and her brother outside. Which meant lots of grass because they always spent time in the park.

She set to work painting the bottom quarter of the paper green, humming cheerfully to herself.

Aimee looked over at Gwen's paper, scrutinizing in that way of hers. She was an artist and knew all sorts of artisty things. "That grass is pretty, Gwen. Almost perfect."

Faith skipped into the room, still wearing her yellow rain coat and red galoshes. Her pockets were bulging with shells and things. "Hi Aunt Annette!" she smiled at one of the few of her father's friends that she approved of.
