Scorpius living room, Thursday morning

Having no classes meant Amber could do whatever she wanted. That's right.

Currently she was sprawled on the couch, taking up the entire length cause she could. Cause no one else was out here yet and... she could. She dragged a blanket with her and tangled her legs all up in it and flipped on the TV, keeping it at a pretty decent level in case others were still sleeping.

Oh yay, a horror classic. Just what she needed to preoccupy stupid thoughts. Go her.

He didn't announce himself.

He just sort of slipped in and sat on the floor and leaned his back against the armrest on the couch to watch the movie; it wasn't exactly his usual behavior, considering what the curves of a television screen could do, but it wasn't half so bad when it was on and he couldn't sit in his bunk.

Hence, couch.

As for why he didn't speak to Amber, well, it wasn't any kind of charged silence. He just didn't feel up to, or as if he really needed, words.

Amber glanced over at him withough moving. She was still sprawled, tangled up in her blanket; comfy despite the flush of warmth that evaded her face in her otherwise cool body.

Being weird was not fun at all.

Without much fuss, he dug in his bag a moment and pulled out a couple of brownies (http://community.livejournal.com/food_porn/4287172.html) wrapped in a cloth napkin. One he took. The other he lifted to Amber, should she like it.

She reached out, accepting it with a gracious, murmured, "Thank you," and shifted slightly to sit up a bit so she could nibble on it.

He nodded as a 'you're welcome' before settling back against the couch to watch the movie.

After a few moments of hearing nothing but the soft sounds from the TV, she said quietly, "You can turn it if you want. I'm not really into the movie, much."

He shrugged.

"It's just something to stare at," he admitted.

He didn't really care, to be honest.

"But thank you."

"Sure," she replied, looking down at the brownie in her hand. It was good, really good.

Amber had heard on the radio that he had seen Andrew yesterday but nothing was mentioned that would give her insight into how that went. She was curious, but didn't want to ask for fear of being nosey.

"How are you this mornin'?" she asked instead.

He smiled. It was a little hollow and a little frail, but there was some level of genuineness to it.

"I'm... all right," he said before taking a bite of his own brownie. He swallowed it before going on.

"And yourself?"

"Awake," she answered, watching him. There were too many other words she could use to describe herself right now so she just settled on the easiest.

She took a bite of her brownie.

He finally looked up at her, green eyes mostly blank other than a touch of fatigue.

"Well, that I'd noticed. I try not to offer baked goods to the sleeping. Crumbs in bed are unpleasant."

She smiled but didn't expand on the question he had asked.

"You look tired; didn't sleep well?"

"I slept. But rested? I couldn't say I'd done that."

He took another bite.

"The bunk isn't very conducive to sleep just now. I was considering heading back to my room" my empty room; perhaps I should do that, head right over to the dorms and take all my things from there to my own room so I don't even have to see him "and trying there but the couch seemed a likely spot to sit at least."

"We move back this weekend anyway," she commented, ready to move back to her room. She wondered if Triela was coming back?

Finished with her brownie, instead of slouching back just yet, she asked, "Do you want to sit up here? I can scoot over..."

"Yes. And I have things to... move. In the dorms."

He looked up at the couch and considered it for a moment.

"If you like. I'm fine here. The floor is familiar territory."

The last was said with a faint grin.

"Other that your things from here to there?" Amber was slightly confused.

Laying back down after he rejected her offer, however politely, she couldn't refrain from asking, "Familiar how so?"

"One room to another. I'd left some things in another student's room. I don't want their moving back to be more of a hassle, that's all."

He shifted his shoulders before tapping the couch cushion thoughtfully.

"Just used to sit on it mostly."

He didn't feel like going into how often it'd been his bed, before and after the Witch's death. He'd had a bed after the well incident, but that didn't mean that he'd used it when he wanted to make sure she'd gotten back to the keep. Or when he needed to deal with the traders. For one, it'd look like a sympathy ploy. For another, he didn't feel like dealing with all the explanation.

Uh, like she couldn't guess who the other student was and blurted out before she could stop herself, "Andrew?"

Amber smirked a little. "Yah, that's what a couch is for all right."

"I meant the floor--"

He paused before nodding to the first, though.

"Yes, Andrew."

"Oh," she said; an easy misunderstanding given that he tapped the cushion.

"Do you want to talk about it?"

"There's not much to talk about," he said with a shrug, still tapping the cushion. It was an avoidance technique, but a completely understandable misunderstanding. He wasn't always so clear on, well, much of anything.

"He made his feelings, or lack thereof, completely clear. So I told him how I felt and made my goodbyes on that score. It's over."

He closed his eyes, almost as if he'd taken a shot of hard liquor. His lips curved.

"I don't want to make a fuss."

He'd thought he'd be hurting more, honestly, but the finality of it had, in a small way, been something of a relief.

"Oh, Liir," she said softly, shifting slightly to regard him better. "I'm very sorry it came down to that." There was nothing she could really say other than that, and she was sorry, especially for his hurt. Seeing him close his eyes only cofirmed that.

He opened them again with a deep breath in.

"I'm fine. Well used to the truths of existance. Onward onward shall feckless, reckless Liir soldier on!"

The last was said with a brief flash of a grin. Then he shook his head.

"Best I don't plague him anymore."

Then he looked at the couch again.

"Would you be too uncomfortable if I did sit up there?"

Breaking up with someone had to be hard, unless it was mutually done, and even then most likely upsetting. Amber had no idea how Liir felt but that he was trying to make light of it said much.

"I doubt you ever plagued him to begin with," she said quietly.

"Oh, yah, sure..." she moved her legs up, dragging her blanket with her, making room for him.

He shifted up onto the couch, leaning back.

"Have anything to do today? Or are you like me, off for the moment? Goodness, Ino would be proud of me for actually attempting to relax."
