Fifth Floor Common Room; Wednesday Morning.

Even though it was still probably early enough in the morning to cancel out any idea of 'laziness,' Turtle Wexler decided that, since she had no classes today and was already up and kind of hyper, she'd have a lazy sort of day, lounging in the common room in the PJs, slippers propped up on the coffee table, with a bowl of the most sugary cereal she could locate in the cupboard, seasoned generously with more sugar.

She was even watching cartoons as she slurped her spoonfuls of goodness waiting to spring cavities on her. Because, as much as she loved it, sometimes the business news was just way too depressing these days for a morning like this.

"Hey, Wexler," Jamie said wandering into the common room and raiding the cupboards. "What are we watching today?"

It was probably best not to question why Viki had managed to wander up to the floor above her. No doubt she wouldn't know the reason either, but she poked her head into the room.

"Hello!" And blinked. "You have a talking box!"

Romeo was done with classes for the week; this was cause for celebration in the form of sugary cereal.

"Good morrow, Turtle," he said, dumping what was likely the same box she had used into a bowl. "I wonder if this will turn the milk colors?"

A new girl; to go by the question, very new. "Good morrow!" Romeo greeted her. "Sometimes the box sings, as well."

"'Ar'oons," Turtle, mouthful of sugar and sugary cereal (but, hey, milk was good for you, right?), responded, well before chewing and with her eyes mindlessly glued to the coyote chase that bird thing. She hoped, with all the physical damage that coyote went through, he had a damn good insurance plan. In fact, as such a loyal customer for such faulty products, maybe he got a pretty good compensation deal from that ACME company.

"Well," Turtle said, "I wouldn't say I really have it, since it's not mine and belongs to the common room as a whole, but, yeah, we have a talking box. It's on cartoons right now, because, apparently, no one else thinks the news is interesting."

Which wasn't why she didn't have the news on right now, but she didn't want the new girl getting the wrong idea. She wiggled her toes in her fluffy slippers a bit.

She beamed at him. "It does? Really?"

"The news?" Viki asked. "How does a talking box know the news?"

He beamed right back at her. "Aye," he confirmed. "And sometimes it shows explosions and gunplay. It will show you almost anything."

He'd explain it was technology and not magic. Eventually.

"Good morrow, Romeo!" Turtle chirped back, even though she wasn't sure what morrow meant, but it felt clunky to respond with a different word like morning when the other person had already said morrow. "And it will if you put food coloring in it! You know, just to make sure. Can never have your milk change color in your cereal too much."

Romeo looked skeptical for a moment. "That," he decided, "is a brilliant idea. I could make the milk blue, or purple, even if the cereal lets me down."

He stretched to his full height and started poking through the cabinets for food coloring.

"And no one gets hurt?" Viki asked, glancing at the box-thing. "In the explosions?"

"What? No Wall Street report?" Jamie asked as he flopped on the couch with a couple of pop tarts.

Jmie waved at Romeo. "Hey, man. What's the good word?"

"It's pretty much a one-sided conversation though," Jamie said with a grin. "Don't expect it to talk back."

"Can it not hear me?" she asked curiously. "Is it deaf?"

Romeo considered this for a moment. "Felicitous," he finally said. "Good morrow, Jamie."

"It's a machine," Jamie replied. "It's not alive or anything. It just provides entertainment and news. Ever been to a theater? Think of that but just stuffed in a box."

"Not on the good shows," Romeo said. "Mostly it's all staged for the cameras. On the news, sometimes, yes, but not because of the box. Television just ... shows what has happened."

"And a good morrow to you as well," Jamie replied. "Now if any of says felicitous in a sentence we have to throw confetti in the air and jump around like maniacs."

Viki blinked at him in dismay. "How do they feed the actors?"

"How does it do that?" she asked curiously. "With magic?"

"They're not really inside the box. Those are just recorded images of them being replayed."

"And scream real loud," Romeo told him seriously. "That would be the most important part, even if we lack confetti."

"Well, the talking box doesn't," Turtle explained. "But the people inside of it do."

Of course, Turtle had meant to say the people on it, which may have been equally confusing, but she was still a little sleepy, and wasn't quite with it yet.
