"So," Dean began, grinning at his double, settling on the couch with the remote, popcorn and a mlkshake, "how many zombie flicks do you think we can get through tonight?"

Already attached to the milkshake, Alec considered a moment. "Five. I think more than that and it won't be tonight anymore."

"Point," Dean said. "Original Dawn of the Dead first? Or the remake?"

"Remake. I like the better special effects," he said, then smirked. "Slightly better, anyway."

Ella wandered up the stairs and into the third-floor common room, glancing a little curiously between the two young men there. She'd seen them both before I think but never together, and the resemblance was slightly unsettling.

"Hello," she said pleasantly, going to get a drink. "Is there anything interesting on the box?"

She still wasn't entirely used to TV.

"Dude, that's all part of the genre's charm," Dean said, getting up to put in the dvd in the player. "Though, yeah, the remake's pretty good in the effects department."

"We're doing a zombie movie fest," Dean explained.

"Like cryptozoology homework?" Ella asked, brightening as she poured a glass of juice. "That sounds fascinating."

Sadly, she was sincere.

"Less homework, more... yay zombies," Dean said. "Because ficitional zombies are cool. Of course, real zombies are less cool, more smelly." He brightened. "But they're fun to hit with a flamethrower."

"Depends on if you're a fan of the living dead," Alec said, looking at the new girl appreciatively. "Or horror in general."

"This is the one with the baby, right?" Alec waved the milkshake at the tv. "Because that was awesome. Nasty, but awesome."

"I don't think I've ever met a zombie," Ella admitted. "Don't they eat brains? That's a good reason to hit anything with a flamethrower."

"Yeah," Dean said. "Mini zombie. Wants to eat your brains, but you'd have to grind them up in a blender for it first."

Ella gave a tiny grin, blushing slightly. "I'm still getting used to TV. I don't think I've seen horror before," she said. "It might be too frightening for me."

Dean grinned. "Yeah, that's my way of looking at it too. Plus, y'know, flamethrowers are just fun."

"I have a session on not getting killed and one on blowing things up this term," Ella told him. "I hope there's a flamethrower somewhere in there."

She pushed her braid back. "I don't think we've talked, have we? I'm Ella."

He grinned back. "See, that's why you watch it with friends - people who don't mind you grabbing their arm, or who'll tell you when you can look because the freaky part's over."

"I don't think they make bottles for that," he noted. "Maybe you'd use a turkey baster or something."

"Too bad I don't have such a friend here," Ella said, mock-solemnly. "Ought I leave?"

"Dean," Dean said. "And yeah, I'd've remembered talking to you."

"Something you can use to feed from a distance so it doesn't get the idea that you're dessert. But something could probably be juryrigged." He got thoughtful. "I wonder if you raised a zombie from a baby if you can housebreak it?"

"If you wanted to make a new one, I think I've got an opening," Alec said innocently.

"I don't even have the excuse of being entirely new," Ella said mischievously, pleased to be thought memorable. "I suppose I just need to leave my room more often."

"Let's call this an audition," Ella suggested. "If you fell down on your duties during this picture show, I'll have to find someone else to help me."

"I'm Ella, by the way."

"Well, this is a good start," Dean teased.

"Sounds like a deal," he said, grinning as he offered her a spot beside him on the couch. "But I'm not one to let anyone down, especially not a girl like yourself. I'm Alec."
