Gym: Friday Morning [7-25-08]

Sterilizing lab equipment? Helen rolled her eyes as she waited for Rodney to arrive. She couldn't believe she'd spent last night sterilizing his lab equipment. While he looked on and offered 'helpful' advice.

But this was it, this was the last day and since she'd cooked for him during the Day of Citrusy Death she just had today's run and whatever his last boon was. And Ronon had made her his TA. That alone was enough to have her smiling as she waited.

"Last time I'm doing this, thank god," Rodney exclaimed as he entered the gym. He was conveniently ignoring the fact that Dex seemed to want him to train on a continuous basis. He'd deal with that ridiculous later.

Helen raised an eyebrow. "You mean you aren't going to miss me harassing you on a daily basis?"

"Oh yes, this is the highlight of my day," he deadpanned.

"I know it's mine," she said with a perfectly straight face and went back to her stretching out. "Come on, stretch."

"Yeah, yeah," he said as he followed her in the now familiar stretches.

"Decided on your last boon yet?" she asked. "And in Uquar's name, please no more sterilizing lab equipment!"

"Hey, it needed to be done and I hate doing that kind of trivial repetitive task," he justified. "But, um, about that last one..." Rodney suddenly seemed unaccountably nervous.

Helen stopped stretching and turned to stare at him. "What?" she demanded. "Something more tedius and unpleasant than last night's job?"

Rodney winced. "I certainly hope not. I was actually thinking that it could be something other than the manual labor you've been doing all week."

She turned completely around to face him. "All right, now I'm intrigued. What is it?"

"Well, it's..." he hesitated. "You know, I'll completely understand if this goes beyond the scope of our arrangement."

"Rod-ney..."

"I want to go on a date," he finally blurted.

And he wanted her to do the finding and asking for him. "Fine," she said tiredly. "Do you have someone in mind or will anyone do?"

He was a little surprised that she hadn't just assumed he wanted to go out with her, but either way worked for him. "No, there's no one in particular. It should be easy for you to find someone since I'm really not picky. I mean, I'm partial to blondes, but that's really not necessary. Intelligence is a definite plus, though. And a good sense of humor is vital."

"Rodney... I am not interviewing dates for you." She rolled her eyes and went back to her stretching. "Either you tell me who you're interested in and I'll ask them or you're stuck with me since I'm the only one I can guarantee a yes from."

"You can't blame me for trying to avoid all the awkward social stuff," he huffed. "I just figured you'd rather find someone else than go out with me yourself."

"Why would I mind going out with you?" she asked, looking puzzled. "I cooked for you for a week, gave you a foot and back massage, cleaned your room, and sterilized all your lab equipment. You think I would be less amenable to doing something fun?"

"Oh," he said surprised. "Well, I guess when you put it like that, it sort of does make sense," he agreed.

"A date, then," she said. "Fine. When? Tonight?"

"Actually, I thinking it could be for the next big party or dance-thing around here. It always sucks to go to those alone and usually I don't bother so I figured a guaranteed date would be a good idea," he explained.

She thought for a moment, then nodded. "Sounds fair. All right, yes, I will do that. Now, finish stretching and let's run!"

"Okay, great. It's a date," he nodded and then quickly completed the last stretch before they began the first lap.

"You've improved greatly," she told him as they ran, "Even in just this week. You really should consider continuing."

Rodney huffed. "There are much better uses for my time."
