The Deck, Friday evening

Jan was exploring the deck area, picking his way delicately between the chairs and the tables to sniff at the gas barbecues. He flattened his ears, because they smelled wrong, shook his head, and headed out onto the grassy area.

When he spotted the horseshoes (not that he knew what they were), he trotted over, sniffed them, then carefully picked one up in his teeth.

After a few minutes, he was amusing himself by tossing them at the upright stick, trying to see if he could get them to land on it.

[ooc: So open, yes. Unicorn playing horseshoes. I couldn't resist.]

It was a Friday night, and somehow staying in her room just felt wrong, so Angela took her mug of coffee and her sketchpad down to the deck to enjoy the last of the light.

Even a few weeks here, and the knowledge that there was in fact, a unicorn at the school, didn't really mean she was expecting to see him. She stopped, and kind of stared for a minute there.

... Or watched. Yeah, watched sounds more polite.

"Hi!" Angela shot him a slightly bemused smile. "Angela," she told Jan in return. She decided 'Oh my God, you talk?' was potentially a little rude.

"I, uh, think I noticed you at the Welcome Picnic," she added with a quick nod. "Nice to finally, talk to you."

Joan felt like getting out of the dorm.

She wasn't expecting to see a unicorn playing horseshoes though.

She stood off to the side and watched.

It was on Friday nights when she barely knew people that she missed Chicago most, she decided. There was no one to go see a movie or hang out with yet.

Of course, she realized as she spotted someone who was probably Jan, Fandom wasn't all bad. "No fair cheating," she called to him. "You have an advantage."

"Not as new as you," Angela replied, shifting her sketchbook from under her arm to put in down. "I arrived a few weeks ago, and decided to stay on for the school year."

She cocked her head, looking at Jan. "You did just arrive, and I wasn't being extremely unobservant before, right?"

"Uh... sure, why not," Joan said, stepping forward. "I'm Joan, by the way."

"We go to school with a unicorn," Angela remarked to Joan quietly. "How cool is that?"

Awwww. Molly reached out to scratch his nose and between his ears. "I know you wouldn't. I was just teasing, because of the horseshoe thing."

"It is so cool," Joan said. "I just wish I could tell people at home without getting tossed in the funny farm."

Angela twitched her fingers in a little wave of greeting.

"I think we've just discovered the place for Friday nights in Fandom," she said with a grin. "Who needs a party when you've got a deck?"

"I'm pretty sure that's the point of the game," Joan said. "I've seen my dad play with his cop buddies. You're supposed to hook the horseshoe around the stick thing."

[identity profile] grasshopper-mol.livejournal.com 2008-09-12 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"Uh huh," she nodded, "You're not a horse, though, right? I'd expect unicorn shoes to fit."

Penelope was exploring. Every exploration was an adventure so she went somewhere she'd not yet been. Being that, seeing a unicorn stopped her in her heels, and she could only stand there and stare in wonderment.

"Oh, God yes. None of this is ever getting back to my friends," Angela agreed. "Or my Dad... Or, yeah, anyone who might try and herd me away in a straightjacket."

Molly waved back. "It's a good place, and who says we can't do both?" She noticed the sketchpad. "You're an artist?"

[identity profile] joan-notjane.livejournal.com 2008-09-12 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"You have an overprotective dad, too?" Joan asked sympathetically.

"Its quirky," Angela said with a grin. "Which actually suits me pretty well."

"How, well, does a unicorn get sent to a high school?" she asked curiously.
