Gun range [afternoon]

His trip to the gun range with Dean couldn't have been more conveniently planned, Ben decided as he removed his blaster from the shelf and set up across from a target.

Not that he was planning to use a blaster for Jacen's assignment. It seemed a little...loud.

He focused on the Force, letting it guide his fingers to the trigger.

Bullseye.

And another.

And another.

Dean wouldn't mind if he got in a little early practice, right?

[OOC: Range is open! Ben's expecting Dean, but the more the merrier.]

Dean wandered in and watched Ben for a minute. "Not bad, kid."

Ben grinned. "Thanks. I could still use some practice--I'm only hitting it about 90 percent of the time."

"Yeah, that pesky 10 percent can get you in trouble if that's the part that's shooting back," Dean quipped.

"Exactly," Ben said, nodding. "And a lightsaber can't be used in every situation."

"Yeah doesn't really work all that well against ghosts, for example."

"I've never seen a ghost," Ben said. "Obi-Wan stopped coming around decades ago. Not that I think he would've been thrilled if anyone pulled a lightsaber on him. How do you get rid of one?"

"Easiest way? Find the body and salt and burn it," Dean said.

Ben made a little "oh yuck" face. "We burn most of our dead anyway," he said. "Is that why we don't have ghosts?"

"It probably doesn't hurt," Dean said.

"Lucky us for being inadvertently brilliant, then," Ben said, taking another shot at the target. "What got you into ghost hunting?"

"Kinda the family business," Dean said, moving over to get his own gun out of his locker and coming back. "My Mom was killed by a demon when I was four, Dad's been hunting down all the things that go bump in the night ever since."

"Did he catch the thing that did it?" Ben asked. He couldn't imagine anything happening to his mother, but he was pretty sure the galaxy wouldn't be a big enough place for someone to hide from Luke.

"Not yet," Dean said grimly. "But last time it attacked us we sent it running with its tail between its legs."

"Good," Ben said, looking just as serious.

Then he paused. "Does it actually have a tail?"

Dean frowned. "Don't know. It posseses people so all I know is it's got yellow eyes and is black smoke when it's noncorporeal."

"It possesses people?" Ben's eyes went wide. "So you might think it's your friend but it's really not?"

Dean nodded grimly. "Exactly like that. It possessed my best friend last time."

"That's just creepy," Ben said with a small shiver. "How do you get it out?"

"Exorcism," Dean said. "This particular time it was Karal who did it using the power of Vkandis."

"Was your friend okay afterwards?"

Dean grinned. "Alec's always alright. Or so he'll tell you. Yeah, he's fine now."

"Good to hear," Ben said with a relieved smile. "So...you have an antique to show me?"

"If I wanted to show you a real antique, I'd show you the Colt that we picked up last month," Dean said, even as he handed over the blaster he'd picked up on Coruscant.

"Colt?" Ben asked as he examined the weapon. "Wow, I thought Uncle Han's old blaster was old," he said, sounding impressed.

"It's about two years old actually," Dean said. "Since that's when I bought it."
