Shooting Range, Thursday Morning

Ino was down in the gun range before Dojima-san this morning. Seeing no reason to wait, and besides, extra practice was always a good thing, she made sure her gun was in working order and then began her own target practice.

It felt good to shoot at things. Even if it was just targets on the range.

A part of her wondered if that ought to be something more like 'especially since it was just targets on the range'.

[Ino is here for Dojima, but the range is tooootally open for any Ino or shooting needs. ETA: That the girls talked about boys and guns is FB, everything else is NFB please.]

"Ohaiyo!" Dōjima called out as she entered the range. "Have I kept you waiting long?"

Ino finished her shot, then pointed the gun at the ground while switching the safety on. "Not that long," she said brightly. "But I got bored, you know!"

"What does it say about us, that we're easily entertained by firearms?" she mused as she sat down to unpack her Walther from its case. "Nothing good, I'm sure."

"Depends on who you ask, I'd think," Ino grinned. "I mean, really, I bet there's a good bit of people that'd think we're a-okay for being entertained this way."

"But are those the people that we want to know what we're up to?" Dōjima teased lightly. "We've already almost got more guys than girls in the club. If they know how much fun we're having, we might get completely outnumbered."

"I'd say make it girl's only and have it stick," she said. "But then we'd not get boys like Romeo to stare at in practice, and that'd be a shame. We'll just have to be better than them."

"I'm not allowed to leer at the pretty boys while I'm shooting," Dōjima sighed, shaking her head as she finished loading the gun. "It throws off my aim."

"Just means we need more practice!" Ino chirped. "I mean, really, when you can both leer and aim well, then you know you're doing it right."

Dōjima just shook her head again. "Romeo might have a few words to say about that," she said dryly, "and I am not exactly eager to give him more ammunition to scold me with."

"True enough," she conceded. "Though I think he'd have less issues if you were leering at him only. Anything I can do to help with...?"

Stuff?

"I don't generally leer at other boys!" she exclaimed, flailing slightly. "Just him! I'm being good!"

Stuff. Yeah. Stuff was a good word for it. "I don't know. He's mad, and he should be, but we're working on it?" Her gun was suddenly very interesting to look at, and Yurika shrugged. "I mean, there wasn't really a good way to bring it up, you know?"

"Just saying," she said, before going serious.

"I mean, really, I've never had to do it? The keeping secrets from my people thing--my family is all ninja, so they get it and don't worry 'bout it? But I remember Sakura having some huge fights with her parents 'cause they didn't get why she couldn't tell them about her day when she came back bruised and sore, so yeah, I don't think there's a good way, really, to say it and then... well... he's so very... Romeo."

That totally counted as a descriptive word.

"He's so very Romeo that when I tell him something that I've been keeping secret for months, something obviously not-safe, he goes and tells other people," Yurika replied, shaking her head. "No offense or anything."

That got a rueful twitch of her lips.

"There's that," Ino said. "No offense taken, and then he wonders why you didn't tell him before..."

"It's not that I don't trust him," she said quickly. "I do. If I had said 'Don't tell', then he wouldn't have. I just didn't think I had to explain that telling him did not equal public knowledge. I may not have to keep it secret anymore, but if word gets back to my Japan, I'm screwed."

She nodded. "Then you should be glad, yeah, that other people can keep a secret for him."

"He can keep a secret," Yurika said loyally. "'Impulsive' might be my Romeo's middle name, but he's not careless. I did say you were one of the other people I was thinking about telling, so he might have thought I'd already spoken to you."

"Which, I am sorry he got snippy with you."

That got a shrug. "Possibly, I'm just saying, it's not going past me. And don't worry 'bout it, I've had worse that just snippy from people," Ino commented. "And he, at least, wasn't snippy so much at me as I was there and a convenient target for his anger."

"Which he probably needed," Yurika sighed. "A target, I mean. I was kind of hiding in my room for a bit."

"How did your friend deal with it? Sakura? Just yelling all the time?" she asked curiously. "And do you have any questions for me? Since you got yelled at, you totally get to ask."

"I don't mind being a target," she admitted. "I'd rather me, than someone who'd get really upset about it, you know? I just give as good as I've got back."

"Sakura..." Ino tugged at her hair. "She was always, you know, low on self-confidence back then, right? So she'd just try and pretend it wasn't happening. Like, in front of her parents, she'd be... all teacher's pet and everything? But when she wasn't... she was a lot more explosive. Worse mood swings than me." Which was saying something, really.

"My big question, I guess is... what's the deal? Like, the whole thing, I've got bits and pieces and some I've cobbled together myself, but..."

Yurika could have given entire lectures about girls with low self-confidence living two lives, but that's not what Ino had asked.

"I'm being sent to spy on the Witch Hunters," she said simply, picking up her gun again to take aim at a target. "There's people going missing, the Administrator is disobeying Headquarters, and Father Juliano sent me to Fandom to learn how to hide in plain sight before he throws me to the wolves."

Her aim was, perhaps unsurprisingly, a lot better when she didn't have to pretend to be a terrible shot.

"Hmmm," Ino watched the spot critically. "How much were you faking it when I took you out in paintball? Just curious."

A beat.

"Does this mean you're leaving soon?"

"Actually? Not that much. I only learned how to use a gun about a month or so before coming to school," Yurika said, clicking the safety back on. "I'm good with stationary targets, and pretty decent with moving ones. Give me an unfamiliar gun? My decent goes down to adequate."

"No, I'm not leaving, I get to stay through graduation. I've got an evaluation coming up, but they're not going to pull me from the school or anything." Hopefully.

"Evaluation?" With a headtilt. "Hopefully, yeah. I don't want to think 'bout how reckless Romeo would go if they did, I doubt reasonabling at him would work in that case."

"He's coming with me. For the evaluation, I mean. I was told to assemble a team by any means necessary, and I might have decided that gave me a nice little loophole to tell him about everything." Yurika was still rather unrepentant about that. "But, if for some strange reason I do vanish and Romeo goes ballistic? Hit him over the head and sit on him for me?"

"He won't even know what hit him, if it comes to that," Ino promised.

"Is there, seriously, anything I can do to help?"

Yurika chewed on her lip for a moment, thinking. "Shooting buddy?" she offered hesitantly. "I'll need to be hitting the range more, and I'm less-inclined to be lazy and skip if I know someone's waiting for me."

"Shooting buddy," she said, not entirely pleased with just that, but it was far better than nothing. Ino hated not being able to do things for people.

A beat.

"And I can even be obnoxious and come drag you out of bed if you skip!"

Ino would. She so so would.

Yurika groaned. "If you're going to do that, please be sneaky-ninja about it? I like my roommate, I don't want her to hate me?"

Ino grinned impishly.

"Then you'd best get out of bed when you're supposed to!"

"Hate you already!" Yurika sang sweetly. "Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaate."

"How much to turn that evil cheerfulness on someone else?"

"Depeeeends," Ino said, drawing the word out. "On who and why you want me to be evil and cheerful at. If it's just 'cause you don't want me to get you out of bed... you're out of luck."

"Consider it an inquiry for a future investment," Dōjima said loftily. "I might want to turn you loose on someone at a later date."

"Like poor little Gloom Cloud. I said I wouldn't pester him anymore about dancing or shirtlessness. I didn't say I wouldn't bribe other people to annoy him."

"For you?" Ino said, pretending to think about it. "You've got to teach me something, anything about anything."

A beat.

"Gloom Cloud?" ...the rest of that sounded rather familiar though... "...Cal?"

"Haaaaaaaaaai. Gloom Cloud," she said, nodding. "Ever read the books with the gray donkey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eeyore)? The one that's really funny but deadpan? That's so Cal."

"I really just wanted to know the price, should I ever wish to use your powers for evil," Yurika teased. "I could trade, um, I have no idea? Shopping trip?"

"I haven't," she said. "Read any, that is. Not my world, and I'm awful at reading for fun."

Ino... pretty much... didn't read for fun. Reading wasn't fun.

"And, ugh, you can bribe me 'bout anyone but Cal. Cal's already made me swear to leave off him for the dancing stuff, though I haven't tried the shirtless angle..." Somehow, she doubted it'd work. She sniffed. "But a shopping trip is acceptable as a bribe."

"It's a book for kids," Yurika admitted, "but I like it. It's easy to read, and the donkey is funny."

"One of these days, that boy is going to get bit by a gremlin and end up dancing the polka on the lawn. When that day comes, we will be ready with video evidence," she vowed. "Just because that's the way Fandom works."

"Maybe I'll read it sometime, just to see then." That got a laugh. "And, oh yes, we'll totally have video evidence of that. How could we not?"
