Fourth Floor Common Room [evening]

Having had a rather...eventful day (it wasn't every afternoon that a girl hatched a tiny girl with snakes for hair out of an egg, after all), Aravis was curled up comfortably on a couch in the fourth floor common room with a cup of tea.

Somehow the colder weather wasn't helping her mood, either.

Nor was the programming on the television. "I don't understand why we're supposed to care about any of these people," Aravis sighed, blowing onto the surface of her tea so that the steam would rise into her face, because in her opinion, that was far more interesting than Rumor Gal.

Buffy was sort of on the lookout for something to do, which was why she was wandering upstairs... and immediately finding a seat when she saw what was on. "Ooooh. New?" she guessed.

"Yeah, I've missed a few episodes, I'm not sure I would either," she admitted, pulling her legs up onto the armchair to curl up. "I gotta say, I much prefer your TV nowadays. It's so much soapier."

Kitty boxing was exhausting, and so while Amber took a nap in his room, Cal decided to give her some peace and quiet and went to crash for a bit in the common room instead. He dropped on the couch without any sort of ceremony after grabbing a Faygo from the fridge, and asked, "So what's on?"

"1998. And okay, sure, it's the common room TV, but it's really all our TV," she said diplomatically.

"You...don't know that you like it?" Cal asked, fixing a brief look of confusion toward Aravis before his eyes returned to the screen. His head tilted slightly.

"Oh. You poor thing, where do you get your pop culture?"

Look, it was an important question.

Cal's lips moved as he went over that again in his head, and he concluded his thoughts on it with a grin. "But," he said, "you like it well enough to keep on watching."

Buffy almost squeaked.

"You know, all the little references that pop out in everyday speech to prove you're with it?"

"You know," Cal said, "there's this nifty little button on the remote. It does the wildest thing. It turns the TV off. That then allows you to do this really neat thing called reading. Or maybe playing a game. Or picking up scrapbooking."

"It," she explained helpfully. "Like, things. The times."

Cal tipped a wave of his hand of a wave toward his fellow library aid whose name he could only remember because it was ridiculous and he never imagined he'd ever meet another Buffy outside of private girls' school.

"Rumor Gal fan?" Buffy asked, in lieu of hello.

[identity profile] iruinenglish.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
"Not like, time time. Current time. The here and now. Modern day. Ish." She had no idea what she was saying anymore.

"Never even heard of it before today!" Cal announced proudly, lifting his bottle of Faygo in a toast.

"Mmm, yes," Cal mused. "No finer luxury than doing something merely because you usually can't, no matter how worthless. You sure you're not from around here? You sound like a true American if I've ever heard one."
