The Range - Girls With Guns [Wednesday afternoon]

Triela was her usual grinning self when it came time to start the club today. She had several boxes laid out in front of her.

"Today," she explained to people as they arrived, "I'm showing off different types of ammunition. You know, for those who don't know but do care."

She waved at the various boxes, which contained standard hollow-point and solid slugs in addition to more specialized stuff like armor-piercing and tumbling rounds and the downright odd like the Glaser "safety" bullet.

And ask questions, if you want. This isn't a formal class or anything, but Triela's glad to explain for the curious.

It would take holiday scheduling weirdness to get me to post at an hour that isn't ridiculously late...

Bond was there, still looking far too pleased with himself from class.

Turtle cleaned her gun a little, but wanted to put most of her attention into Triela's explanations. Not that she'd remember half of it later, or anything.

Turtle was opting out today, deciding that she was far too distracted to be handling a gun right now, and, besides, she should probably leave early. She and Jeff had a plane to catch, and there were always...complications involved with Jeff in an airport, so they'd need plenty of time.

Dojima Yurika

Dojima hovered over the various toys Triela had brought, mentally comparing the items.

"So, does the kick-back differ at all with some of these?" she asked, tapping a case of the armor-piercing rounds. "Or is there anything else you have to take into consideration when using them?"

She had a couple of the different types of ammo Triela had brought, and Dojima was happily firing away at the targets.

"Have you ever worked with any of this stuff before?" Triela asked, head tilted.

"Recoil is mostly a function of bullet size rather than type, so most of these will feel pretty much the same. But each one is designed for a different purpose." She picked up a hollow-pointed bullet. "These are great against people without any armor because of the way they break up when they hit something, but they don't go through doors or walls or vests very well."

Triela shrugged, "You've just got to pick the right tool for whatever job you're doing."

Turtle shook her head slightly. "Different guns, sure, but only a few different kinds of ammunition."

"You want to try any out or anything?" she offered.

"I don't think I'll be shooting today, Triela."

Triela blinked.

"Any particular reason?" She didn't mind, but Turtle was pretty diligent, even though she didn't like the whole thing.

"I'm just a firm believer," Turtle explained, turning a little pink, "that no one should handle a gun when distracted."

"That's definitely true," Triela nodded in firm agreement.

Then she paused, giving Turtle a chance to share the distraction if she wanted to.

Momoko Akatsutsumi

Yeah, right.

"So that's all," Turtle shrugged, seeming to turn a little more red. "Just going to watch today; I should leave early to get ready for the flight home, anyway. Jeff's coming along, and there are always complications involved with Jeff in the airport."

"Fair enough," Triela nodded. "Let me know if you need anything." She flashed a smile and moved onto some of the others.

Momoko was looking closely at the boxes. "Do each of these types require a different gun or can you use them with any type of gun? So long as they fit, I mean, since some of them are different sizes and all."

"Good question," Triela laughed. "Most specialized bullets are designed to fit into existing guns. So chances are you can get a version of most of these designed to shoot in whatever you already have."

"I see!" She smiled and nodded. "And then each one has a specific reason that you would use it? Like you would use silver bullets for shapeshifters or rocksalt ones for demons and ghosts." See? She learned things in class! Even if most of her notes were doodles...

"Like that, yeah."

"So, how do you know which type to actually use? I know when you would use rocksalt and silver because of class, and 'armor-piercing' is obvious, but what do the others do? Isn't a bullet just for making a hole? Why does it matter if it's a 'hollow point' bullet or a solid?"

"Well, I know it's weird to think about it this way, but sometimes your bullet is too good at making a hole. It goes right through so fast that it doesn't actually hurt much. So sometimes you need a bullet that makes a bigger hole."

"But... to get a bigger hole, wouldn't you have to go up a size? Use a bigger bullet? And then you would need a different gun."

"Or you use one of these." Triela held up one of the hollow-points. "When they hit things they break apart and get bigger, so they make bigger holes."

Momoko blinked at the bullet. "Wow. I know guns are dangerous and I don't take them lightly, but that is really a cool concept - like a blooming flower! So they can be made of different materials to get different effects, but some bullets also just do different things." She rubbed her forehead and gave a weak smile. "I feel so stupid, not knowing all of this already."

"Hey, don't. It took years for anyone to figure this stuff out."
