third floor common room - monday after classes - 12/08

From the depths of his esoteric chamber crept the Thropp, his uneven gait a suiting punishment for the variety of unnameable and unknowable components which weighted his arms. Like a toll of doom, his shadow slipped sinuously over the counter, the oventop, yes, even the refrigerator as he entered the corner of the common room feared by many and bested by some few, brave souls such as he.

For hours did he toil at this task, sifting and stirring and beating, aye, beating the dough as a man possessed! The cauldron beside him bubbled with exotic potency to bewitch the nose and conjure forth the denizens of this strange architecture. And when his work was complete, the great flaming womb of darkness opened and it's fruit pulled forth, only then did he proclaim his triumph!

"Fresh bread and soup if anyone'd like," he said as he took his portion and retired to a corner of the common room to work out a bit of homework.

[open! *can't stop giggling*]

Penelope found herself wandering down the hallway from her room because she smelled something wonderful. Looking towards the kitchen when she first walked in, she didn't notice Liir in the corner, so she proceeded to help herself to a cup of soup.

She did turn to get a piece of the fresh bread because it looked too delicious to ignore. And she did spot him.

Penelope froze.

He made it. He made it and she just took it without asking because she assumed it was there for everyone and how was she? Did he completely ignore the gesture behind the flowers she sent him?

Of course he did! It was so stupid of her! Stupidstupidstupid. Not to mention three weeks ago now.

She took a moment to swallow what was in her mouth before she carefully set her bowl down. "I didn't know it was yours."

Well it was back to normal. His glimpse of what it was like to be human had been a lot of fun. Except for the bruising and crashing and scraping and pain. But that was all gone now.

He did miss being larger.

"Hi Liir." Robin said when he came in. "How was your weekend?"

"Hi Penelope." Robin waved from his perch on the back of a chair. "You missed it, I was human this weekend."

"No, it's... fine," she murmured.

Then she started backing towards the door.

"No. No. I just remembered... there's this... something and I..." she closed her mouth, feeling like an idiot.

"What?" She asked, befuddled as she stopped moving, staring at him. "But... but I sent you... I mean I was thinking of you and I..." A month? "A month?"

If he didn't know, then there was no need to bring it up and humiliate herself further.

"No... nevermind. It's... nothing. I'm sorry I bothered you, if I did. Forgive me," she whispered the last and continued toward the door.

She bit her lip, stared up at him with big brown eyes. How could he have not gotten them? They were delivered to the dorms.

"I... I... sent you flowers."

"It doesn't matter," she whispered, looking away from him. "They were just flowers (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomtownies/3344947.html#cutid2). I'm sorry. It was a silly gesture," she adding, cheeks flaming.

Penelope still wouldn't look up at him.

"I think I've learned girls don't give boys flowers except for a dance," she said, her voice not a whisper, but something just above.

She peeked through her lashes at his hand, feeling entirely vulnerable, and very much humiliated. She would go to bed feeling this way. And because of these emotions, she was afraid to take his hand.

"It was my fault. You've done nothing to warrant my forgiveness."

Tony followed his nose upstairs and helped himself to bread and soup. "Did you make this?" he asked Liir.

"Yes?" she asked, staring down at her small, heeled shoes.
