As Liir had the day off today from just about everything, he decided to get some baking done. No brownies, of course, but a little bit of chocolate wouldn't hurt anyone (except Makejoy, who was once again being very good and staying outside of the kitchen) and he had a craving for toffee he couldn't quite explain.

Hence the browned chocolate-chip and cherry cookies that he pulled from the oven as another batch of them went in. They had a few minutes to cool, of course, but he couldn't quite resist pulling up one very carefully, blowing on it a little, and taking a bite.

...it burned, of course, but they were just right.

"Milk," he decided, "I hope we have some milk."

He also had up a little sign.

On his way up from the cafeteria (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/1992873.html?thread=126705065#t126705065) with a plate of food for Arthur, Chad couldn't help noticing that there was cooking going on in the common room. Not just cooking, but Liir cooking, which was usually good, and, by the look and smell of it, probably was.

"Hey, Liir," he said. "Can I grab a few of those?"

"Certainly," he agreed with a nod of his head. He slid a few off of the baking sheet onto a plate, covered it with a paper towel, and placed it at the end of the counter.

"There's plenty to go around. I just didn't have anything good for guests around. How are you, Chad? Eating in your room?"

He tipped his chin to the food he already had.

"Thanks," Chad said, easily able to balance the plate from the cafeteria in one hand while taking the cookies with the other. "And I'm good, but it's not for me. Might come back for more, though."

All this getting other people food made him hungry.

"You'd be welcome to it. I enjoy the scent of them as much as anything, so I always make quite a few."

And in fact, the browned-butter toffee scent was rather nice.

"Hi, Liir," Amber said as she shuffled in wearing the same clothes she wore yesterday.

"Smells good in here. What're you making?"

"Just cookies. Chocolate chip," he offered, holding out one of the cooled and finished ones.

"Is something the matter?"

She looked... rumpled.

"I'm actually surprised," Chad grunted, "the oven still even works."

And he decided that he was going to go ahead and help himself to one of those cookies now. Arthur could wait, and Liir was right about them smelling pretty good.

"I was extra polite," he admitted with a look at the oven.

"Just in case."

He took one for himself.

"How have you-- I asked that, didn't I? Well, er, taking anything interesting?"

She took one and felt like she could eat a dozen. Not so much because she was hungry, but because chocolate made everything better. "Thanks," she said, and smiled at him before she took a bite. Mmmm, so good.

"I smell," she complained. "It doesn't matter that I showered. My stupid clothes are dirty."

He breathed in to offer again, but she'd not taken him up on things and it might seem like gloating. So instead, odor or not, he leaned over and pulled her in for a one-armed hug.

"You're fine to me."

Which was true. That Liir'd spent most of his childhood with animals and Animals and wild beasts and monkeys with questionable cleanliness habits was also true.

"You're just saying that. I know you want to say, 'I told you so,' or something," she muttered, hugging him back.

"My clothes are icky and wrinkly and I need to go purchase some under thingies."

She pouted and ate her cookie.

He kissed her hair.

"Would you like me to do some of your laundry? I really wouldn't mind, Amber. And it's not an 'I told you so'. I can see you're unhappy."

She debated his offer. Again.

"It's...not too weird for you?"

He blinked before looking down and shaking his head.

"Of course not. I used to do the laundry for the Witch and Nanny both. The Witch couldn't handle water and Nanny was too old for it. It doesn't trouble me in the least."

Amber twisted her lips. "You could show me how to do it," she suggested.

That had him thinking about things he shouldn't.

"Certainly."

...just because he knew it might result in very strange thoughts didn't mean he didn't want that, however.

"Are you free anytime soon?" she said, itching at her side. "My clothes are... icky, Liir. The sooner the better."

"I'm free as soon as the second batch is out, which should be a couple of minutes," he told her with a kiss to her hair again.

"And then I am very much yours."

Chad thought about the answer as he chewed on his cookie. "Child development and leadership this semester. They're...different."

And utterly useless to him, but he still enjoyed taking them.

She grinned up at him, feeling so much better. "Would you let me borrow a shirt while this stuff get's washed? And maybe a pair of pants too?"

Amber liked the sound of his being very much hers.

He nodded and held up a finger before heading for his room. Makejoy followed him, which made matters even easier as he put her away in her crate since he'd be out doing laundry soon. He gave her the pair of linen pants he had that he thought might fit her, and a t-shirt.

He returned with the clothes, folded, and held them out to her.

"Anything else?"

"The one with the lever or a different one?"

He always got distracted in that class.

Amber accepted them gratefully and held them to her chest. "Nope. Thanks! I can go change in a hurry and get my stuff together and meet you... where do you wash your clothes at?"

"Usually the bathrooms," he told her. "I'll take the time to get together a few pieces of my own clothes that need doing, the soap, and the brush. Once this is done, anyway."

"Okay," she replied and leaned up to kiss his cheek. "I'll be right back!"

She skipped out, practically ran upstairs to her room, and changed. And amazingly enough, his clothes fit pretty well. She was just without underclothes because she needed them washed. Everything she owned practically was eaten by the washer. Whatever. She was wearing clean clothes and felt better.

She bagged up her dirty clothes and headed back downstairs to the common room, leaving the bag by the door.

"What do you think?" she asked, twirling once for him.
