4th Floor Common Room, Wednesday Early Evening

Hinata had taken a long look out her window this morning, an equally long look down at the furry bit of kitten who’d been trying to eat her ankles and convince her that it would be wonderful to go out and decided that: no, she didn’t think so.

Yei purred, and napped, and tried to break out of the room for most of the morning, followed her around while she’d made a quick lunch and trailed back to the room, and then repeated the pattern.

Come evening, though, while Hinata still had no plans to go outside, she’d decided that taking pity on Yei was easy enough, carted the kitten down to the common room, and was leaning over the back of the couch with a bit of yarn trailing from her fingers.

While Yei viciously attacked it. Clearly the yarn was Pure Evil. (And bright pink.)

Mac was of the opinion that leaving the dorms today would be a Very Bad Plan.

She did venture as far as the common room, and sent a smile and a wave in Hinata's direction and flopped down onto one of the couches. "Cute," she offered, by way of a sort of greeting.

Hinata grinned a bit, wriggling the yarn past Yei's nose.

"She's f-fighting evil," Hinata said, considering her kitten. "Which normally isn't so cute."

"She usually fights evil less adorably?" Mac asked, grinning back as she watched. "Or, just everyone else fighting evil doesn't do it so well?"

That got a laugh.

"Everyone l-less does it less adorably," she decided. "Most people aren't fluffy and white and p-purr after all."

"Watching these invasions would be so much more fun if they were all like this," she decided, stretching out to lounge across the couch.

She frowned slightly. "And less d-disgusting. The choice of weapon leaves much to b-be desired."

Mac wrinkled her nose. "I am so glad I didn't have class or anything today," she said with feeling.

"And hopefully whatever m-messes are done today will be cleared up by tomorrow," she said, by way of agreement. "I w-would rather not walk through any of it.

"... I may give it a day or two before I venture out there," Mac admitted. Ugh.

"I wish I could," she said, shuddering. "But I have c-class tomorrow, and a TA should not s-skip for such a small reason."

Mac pulled a face. "Wear boots," she recommended. "And take an umbrella. Just in case."

"The boots I'd already planned." Hinata tugged the yarn a bit more for Yei. "The u-umbrella is a good idea though. I'll do that, thank you."

"Have you been keeping well o-other than the island's problems?" she asked. "Were you on the cruise? I c-confess, I didn't talk to many, so I might have missed you."

"I wasn't exactly Miss Sociable either," Mac admitted with a little smile. "But yeah, I was there. It was my last spring break here, so I figured I should make the most of it."

"As good a reason as a-any," she grinned slightly. "If you're the sort that n-needs a reason for a vacation."

Yes, there were crazy winged bird-women outside, shrieking and throwing gross things all over the place.

Was it any surprise Cal was staying very firmly indoors?

He drifted toward the common room, pretty sure there had to be other intelligent people hanging around inside, away from them, and was not disappointed.

Awwwwwwww, kitty! Much better than crazy bird-women.

"Hey, smart people," he greeted the room as a whole.

Yei tripped over the yarn as Hinata glanced up. "Hello," she said, smiling. "You must be rather smart as well, if you've not gone outside t-today."

"You shouldn't really need to justify wanting to get away and lie on a beach for a week," Mac allowed with a grin. "Wanting a bit of relaxation should be enough."

"You enjoy it?" she asked.

"Cal," Mac greeted him with a smile in return. "Sticking with the indoors plan?"

Cal grinned a little, moving into the room and having a seat in a chair. "Yeah, there's no way in hell I'm going out there if I can help it."

"Some people feel the need to j-justify everything," she noted, laughing softly. "And I did--I'd n-never heard even of a boat so huge before, or had the time to be around that much water."

"Hell yes," said Cal, shaking his head. "You've got to be nuts to want to deal with those things out there willingly."

"All it took was a l-look out the window for me to decide I'd rather not," she said agreeably. "I've n-nothing so urgent that it was worth braving that."

"Go outside and deal with gross, ugly monsters," Cal lifted up one hand, "stay inside and play with cute kitten." He lifted up the other, weighing the options.

"Kind of a no brainer."

"Unless the c-cute kitten wants to go play with the monsters," she said ruefully. "And you wind up having to distract her. S-She wouldn't leave the window in-between naps." And cuddle time, that was important.

"Oh, no," said Cal, "having to distract a cute kitten. That must be very hard for you, Hinata." He grinned a little, dropping his hand and wiggling his fingers in the attempt to gain Yei's attention.
