Third Floor Common Room, Saturday Morning

It was morning, and morning meant breakfast! And there weren't enough adults around to feed them, and Warren needed food. So he was gonna make some, 'cause he liked cooking anyhow! Anemone and him were going to make pancakes, and cereal, and scrambled eggs, and... Well. Mostly pancakes.

With mouse ears on them!

And on the counter. And on the fridge door. And on the floor...

"It's supposed to go in the pan, you know."

[Common room open! Breakfast on the way!]

"I don't feel that I need to explain my art to you, Warren," Anemone replied cheerily as she used the chocolate sauce they'd found in a cupboard to outline another shape on countertop. "I'm practicing."

Anemone considered this for a moment before nodding. "Okay!" she answered, dragging her stool closer to the stove. "But you have to take the pan off, I'm not allowed to touch things on the stove." The perils of being six.

Well, he was the bigger kid, so Anemone was perfectly happy to let him make these decisions. It just meant he'd be the one in trouble if they got caught.

Even wee, Anemone was kinda-sneaky.

"Way too high!" Anemone waved the chocolate sauce enthusiastically. "What shapes should we make?"

Dean had been on his way to his brother's room but stopped in to see if there maybe was some food he could scrounge.

He stared at the mess for a minute and then told the other kids, "You're doing it all wrong!"

A small blond girl walked into the common room wide-eyed. She was dragging a fuzzy pink teddy bear behind her.

"I'm hungry," she complained.

"I don't have to explain my art to you!" Anemone announced, licking batter off her fingers. "Or my pancakes."

"I know how to make a robot!" Very carefully, Anemone started trying to outline a robot in the pan with the chocolate. That way, she'd know where to put the batter. "Think we can put lasers ON the robot?"

"You do know you have to use the stove to cook, right?" Dean asked.

"Is it fun?" she asked hesitantly, leaning forward (but being careful to keep her bear close so as not to get chocolate syrup on it).

"Then find food!" Anemone replied cheerfully. "We gots cereal an' pancake stuffs, but the pancakes aren't ready yet."

"That's not pancakes," Dean pointed out. "That's glop. Pancakes are, y'know, cakey."

"Cereal?" Triela asked. Then, hesitantly, she added, "I like cereal."

"You guys are making a mess!" Peyton said, rescuing an apple to keep her tummy occupied. "You're gonna be in big trouble!"

"Really?" She looked up at him with big eyes. "Can I help?"

Anemone gave him a withering look that had sent her doctors fleeing for years. "This makes pancakes," she informed him seriously. "The box says so."

She wasn't very good at reading all the words on the box, but Warren had helped.
