The Range - Girls With Guns [Tuesday afternoon]

Today Triela brought something a little bit different to gun club. She had her stacks of guns and ammo, of course, but in addition to that she had a number of teapots and enough cups for everyone.

"We're doing something a little different today," Triela explained as people arrived. "Before we get to the shooting I wanted to give anyone who wanted it a chance to talk about last week. I'm especially interested in discussions of how this club proved useful to you during the zombie invasion, and how it could have proven even more useful. What do you wish we'd done here to help you prepare for it?"

She took a sip of tea and grinned. "Of course if you'd rather go straight to the shooting, well, I'm not going to stop you."

Algren had slept through Monday. It had been kind of glorious, actually. And for the first time in a while, he wasn't actually hung over, today.

And, for that matter, he had a shotgun with him.

It was kind of like a whole bunch of firsts for him, really. Which was why, all things considered, he wasn't in a terrible mood as he reached for the tea and set about to making certain the students weren't shooting at one another.

"I've lived through worse," Algren replied, completely honestly. "If the zombies were fast, capable of sentient thought, or armed with more than simply their teeth, it might have been a different story."

That, and being a tiger wasn't really an unpleasant experience.

"It's good to see that we've all made it through, really."

"And even plenty who are, who still fell victim," Algren agreed. He was pretty certain that he'd heard Minsc's name among the casualties on the radio. The thought that anything could get the better of Minsc was unsettling, at least.

"Even in the worlds that don't have zombies, I refuse to believe that there's such a thing as a truly safe place," Algren stated. "There are places where tragedy is less likely, granted, but any place that is absolutely immune to it is most certainly nothing more than fantasy."

He was a cynic, it's true.

"They're civilians," Algren agreed, shrugging one shoulder as though that explained everything. "Some never had any need to worry about such things. And they're children, some of whom have been very sheltered from the harsh realities of life."

He glanced curiously at her for a moment, and then nodded.

"I can't fault them for their innocence," Algren decided. "It takes all kinds to make the world work."

Algren nodded slightly. For all he didn't like the notion of children like Triela having to fight, she understood what she was talking about. He couldn't deny that much.

"It's part of why we do what we do," he agreed.

Lion-o selected a gun and fired off a few shots at a target, imagining that it was a zombie.

Lion-o wasn't a big fan of tea. He added several heaping spoonfuls of sugar to his tea cup before taking a tentative sip.

"Uh huh!" said Lion-o, grinning. Between the sugared-up tea and the brownies at Café Fina, Lion-o was going to be bouncing off the walls for a while.
