The Deck, Monday afternoon

It was freakishly hot outside and Brooke had nothing to do.

This looked like the perfect opportunity to sit out on the deck with a bottle of water, a radio, and a hell of a lot of tanning lotion, all while praying she didn't fall asleep because wow would that suck.

"Tanning in April without being on a cruise," Claudia said happily as she found a spot to sit nearby. "Best ever."

"Global warming's not so bad. I could deal with this," Brooke decided. At leas until the melanoma.

"Definitely," Claudia said with a happy sigh, flipping aimlessly through her copy of US Weekly. "Oh, Lord, Lindsay, eat a sandwich."

"I'm expecting a Britney-like meltdown by the end of the year. I'd say end of the summer but I think that's optimistic," Brooke told her.

"Will the meltdown come before or after she's decided to pose for Playboy?" Claudia asked.

"Oh, after. Playboy's already calling. Actually, no, I don't thin it's Playboy. I think it's straight up porn that's calling," she reconsidered. "After that."

"Shaving her head, or is that too done?" Claudia asked. "Oooh! Naked in front of the ex-girlfriend's place at three in the morning."

"Five bucks says it happens by graduation."

"That's a bet," Claudia said with a grin.

"Anything else good in there? I feel like I've been slacking," she said, still not moving from her current position. She may never move again. At least not until it cooled off.

"Seal and Heidi are having another baby," Claudia said.

"Good! They have adorable kids. We can keep the gene pool going there, yes!"

It wasn't nearly as hot as in the desert, but Leto was dressed for burning sun, wearing a light, pale cloak with a hood.

He noticed Brooke on the deck as he walked past. "Good afternoon," he greeted her.

"And something about Suri Cruise's birthday," Claudia said. "Shame her dad turned into such a nutcase."

"Hey there," Brooke greeted him, looking at him over her sunglasses. "That looks like entirely too much clothing for this weather."

"The kid's cute. Maybe Will and Jada will rescue her and Katie and it'll be all good," Brooke said. "I have hope."

"On the contrary," he replied with a grin, "This offers suitable protection against the sun." He squinted up at the sky. "Although the sun is not really that harsh here. I assume you rely on those lotions instead."

"And Katie can run off with the hot guy from the show she used to be in," Claudia said.

"Yes. To help my tan along so I don't end up looking uneven," she nodded.

"He's with Diane Kruger now, though. Who only dresses crazy. Katie might be a step down for him now," she said, considering this.

"Can he have both?" Claudia offered.

"Because that would be a horrible fate?" Leto raised an eyebrow, amused, meeting her gaze.

"Stripes and weird coloring would distract from my natural good looks so, yes, horrible fate," she grinned.

Brooke looked interested. "Ooh, scandal. I like it."

"Details like that can and should be overlooked," Leto replied. "But I will not argue with you. I think we will just have to accept cultural differences." Yes, that was said with a hint of irony.
